View Full Version : Quick Question - williams 3 ABS
i was just wondering if the ABS light should come on when you turn the ignition on
yes then go out once the engine is started
i thought so!!
Hopefully it is just the bulb which has blown and there is not a fault

People normally remove the bulb when there IS a fault.
Mat.
yep just as i suspected
the bulb was missing hummmm!
the annoying thing is just before i brought the car it went through a MOT so they should of picked this up!!
what do you recon the fault could be? ABS sensor?
check to see if it has all 4 sensors and they are connected
then you need to check which one is broken. You can get a multimeter across the pins on the sensor to check resistance but i dont know the exact value of the top of my head.
From memory they are £80+ to replace.....each.

Should have done yes.
Is normally the sensors but could also be the reluctor ring.
Mat.
ok thanks
£80 is quite expensive!
does the williams have a diagnostics port to check fault codes?
yes but the abs sensors can be checked independatly
I found the problem
the ABS sensor picks up the input from the teeth on the driveshaft
O/S driveshaft there are no teeth on it
N/S driveshaft half of the teeth have fallen off (due to rust i think)
good going, rings can be had from renault as i have changed mine before.
You might find the sensor has been damaged if the ring has been in contact with it ?

Rings can be had on Ebay.
Mat.
yeah one sensor had come into contact so that may need changing!
good news the rings can be brought seperately as i thought i was going to have to change the driveshafts
is this the correct item?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-R19-Clio-MK1-ABS-RING-/120653830789?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c17875a85
are these easy to replace??
yh just tap the ring off , clean up then refit
