How are you getting it there? I'd get it trailored to keep it that way...

Looks absolutely amazing does that. This the one that was on the stand @ Renault World Series? Looked amazing then too.

WAW man! MINT! 8)

07-11-2010, 20:45
Taking it down on a trailer - however weather forecast does not look good...

RAC tax disc holder was what they came with when new - points for originality there

Yes, the gearknob is worn, however new ones from Renault are plastic rather than the leather of the original - I have contemplated buying one and just removing the blue bit and putting that on mine..... as I have also contemplated buying a new steering wheel.... how far do you go I suppose....

talkingfish
07-11-2010, 20:46
Also, Driver's side wiper has now been returned to where it belongs!

looking very good, awesome sample of an icon

as far as I know, the genuine gear stick gaiter is black.

Look fooking beautiful, a prime example.

IMO a black battery would finish it off...

Looks perfect mate.

I'd def get a new gear knob though, spoils an otherwise spotless interior. I bought one for mine a while ago and just swapped the blue plastic centre

This is one cracking example, hope the weather is kind to you on the day. It is a credit to the hours of hard work you have put into the car.

Wow mate , excellent detailing there, couple of q's if you don't mind.
The gear gaitor isn't that supposed to be black ????
That stereo the original they came with???
And those carpets original too???

Juts curious, good luck and enjoy it.

have you repositioned the williams sticker on the tailgate ?

Any pictures of underneath buddy ?

Defo looking very clean though - good luck with the judging mate. Send us a text when you get that trophy!

Do u need the wc banner at all ?

looking great, best of luck with the show, post up some pics of it on the stand when you can

Thanks for you comments guys.... I kinda knew the originality police would be out on this one....

1) The gaiter is one that was supplied by Renault - black ones no longer available apparently... I'd rather have that than a ripped and damaged one... (unless anyone knows of a good seamstress who can make some???)
2) Stereo is from a Williams 3 I think - it is not the original Phillips item from The Williams 1.
3) Boot lid sticker is still in it's incorrect place Northy I'm afraid.... It will remain that way until I replace the tailgate at some point in the future.
4) Carpets are all original and standard as far as I know - the boot carpet still has its 1993 manufacturing sticker on it! Williams 1's had a blue boot carpet as far as I know, the later models had a grey carpet I think...

Northy - will try and get some underside shots at the show now the subframe has been replaced and I have painted the rear beam...

Engine restore took place last winter - it was six months work on and off - many nights in the garage with a toothbrush scrubbing engine bits...!!

Dunc
08-11-2010, 10:42
ahhh, so the RAC tax disc holder is original! i see! cool then! :D

love ur car mate, looked mint when u popped round mine with coops to sort my door hinges!

Need to have another look at it while its still like new!

HAve you got a tailored car cover or anything for it?

Dunc

To be honest I'd find a standard black gaitor and get a new gearknob anyway - they both let the interior down

Mate, what did you use on the exhaust manifold to get it that clean & shiny?

MatBrown
08-11-2010, 19:35
It's a supersprint i believe.

Mate, what did you use on the exhaust manifold to get it that clean & shiny?

As Mat says, I made the decision to go with a stainless option for the "show look" - a standard manifold would only rust over time... plus it makes a most excellent noise on full throttle

Jaymzfc
08-11-2010, 21:07
Mate you gotta get a full cover for the trip to the show, if the weathers bad it will ruin weeks of work, at least the cover will take the brunt of it.

Where did you get the rubber mats for yours from? I want some the same for Winter?

If you do get a cover, do some research as some can scratch the paintwork as they move about over the car.

Cling film!

I guess it could work :p

Genuine period Renault items found after watching ebay for a long time... you can get non=standard rubber items still fairley easily I believe....

Think they are around £350-£400.

I am worried about how crapped up the car is going to get on the way down, even on a trailer. I have a cover but this will blow about and potentially damage the paintwork.... The clingfilm is an interesting option....

The car will be on the Meguiars stand for the whole show - 3 days.

Yeah, I spoke to Renault and they are long out of production. I will scour the Internet for some, condition wise it's irrelevant, as they should always clean up well with a bit of elbow grease!

Hire a enclosed car trailer. Job done.

Are you taking ramps down to show off underneath like the pro's do ?

stevie_b
10-11-2010, 13:20
I towed mine once under a high quality cover and the thing was completely destroyed by wind resistance that caused the baggy bits to flap around and shred themselves to bits.

Cling film sounds like a really good idea for what you are trying to achieve to be honest. Maybe not a roll from the supermarket but the industrial stuff that they wrap around pallets and the like to ensure that nothing falls out in transit.

looked at an enclosed trailer... serious ££££££££££££'s!! Car won't be on ramps as how it is on show is dictated by Meguiars..... Looks like cling film then...

(thought I'd already posted this but can't see it) :?: :?:

I've got a Classic Addition waterproof / breathable cover (expensive so won't do any damage) you can borrow if you like? Has two straps, but will prob need a few more in with the current gusts!

if you need it just pm me and its yours!

Not Proper leather mind, faux Vinyl Leather Wannabe :(

But if you wanted me to bring my old one up for you to compare I can do mate?
