Evening all!

What do any of you know about the 4x4 Dimma Clio Cosworth that Terry Pankhurst built years ago. Theres no pictures or really anything on the net since the first pictures when it was built.

I'm in the middle of a restoration project on a Williams 2 Dimma, will put some pics up tomorrow for any of you that might be interested to see what happens under a Dimma kit for 15 years.

Cheers

Tim

i have a magazine write up of it from that time with pics if you want a scan of it, i tried to build a replica of it in curacoa blue the same as the original but decided i liked the maxi more after finishing it! If you hassle terry pankhurst he will still do work if its lucrative, are you going to build a replica?

Hi Guys,

Ive just bought the magazine off the Net to replace mine the rotted in the folks loft years ago! :-) Looks a serious piece of kit!

Think I might have tracked the car down too!!

Nice one, will be good to get some detailed pics and details on this car

T1MWV
08-10-2010, 10:30
Yeh, I'll upload some pictures later . As you can see from the pistonhead pictures, its nothing like when it was built by Terry Pankhurst in 1993/94. WhenI get some cash together its going to ST-Perfomance to get the bodywork put back to the way it was. I'll keep you posted

As promised, here are some pics of the car as it stands. It obvously needs a load of 'fettling'. The guy that had it previously was a nut on weight and has done everything he can to make the car lighter. Ther are no internal structures to the doors, no bottom dash, just 2 bucket seats with harnesses. Basically its just a very quick track car. Not entirely what I was looking for to be fair but always wanted this 4x4 cosworth clio!

Im going to get carpet back in, the dash back in place and get the propper doors fitted again as you woudlnt stand a chance if anything nudged the side of you. The bodywork is going to be restored back to the original Dimma kit and painted in the Curacao blue as it came out of Terry Pankhursts workshop when it had its magazine features.

I will get some pictures of the underside as soon as I can work out how to get underneath it!

It would be great to hear any thoughts / feedback / Ideas

T1MWV

Dimma only ever bulit one of these, I have heard that Terry Pankhurst bought a brand new 4x4 cosworth and a brand new Clio 16V and set to them to produce this.

isnt that a prima f2 kit???

thought the dimmas all had the slashes in the rear 1/4s

and i also thought the one dimma did was a full on clio outer shell on the scort floorpan/inner wings etc conversion....looks like that has kept the original clio inner wings at the front and strut tops etc

bet it fukkin shifts tho.

T1MWV

It's actually a Dimma kit and the previous owner filling in the side scoops, modified the front bumper, took off the rear spoiler, cut the arches out to fit the 18" alloys and took off the 16v bonnet, WTF?? Dimma didn't actually take the whole cosworth floor pan they modified the Clio and modified the chassis with cosworth pan. I will post the original pics from 94 and you will see the same welding round the turrets. It's in need of some tlc, and I am having the original Dimma kit removed and a new one fitted, I've got the original 17 compomotives to put back on too. Can't wait to get it looking how it used to. And yes, it's quick, never been in anything like it. It's pretty raw when the turbo kicks in and it grips like Billy o. It chirps rather than the gay dump valve pffffsss. Taking it to Collins performance next weekend hopefully to get it on the dyno but the previous owner recons it's late 300,s and just over 3 secs to 60. Not very experienced with all this but am sure will learn V quickly :-)

woah....chill man... just looked like the prima kit....with it not having the slashes....i prefer them tbh they look a lot cleaner.

i thought from mem....which has been wrong......that the article said theyd chopped the escy floorpan and cut the floor out of the clio and installed all the pan/turrets/strut tops/tunnel etc out the escy. then shortened the shafts on all 4 corners etc to fit in the wide arched clio outer shell. basically dropping the the clio outer shell onto a narrowed escy cos floorpan like they do with the mk 3 scorts.

just looks like the clio strut tops with a bit of fettling in the pics. has been a while since i looked under a clio bonnet tho tbh lol.

and good luck with the project....sounded a right beast back in the day.and no doubt still is...only with time will be better ;)

12-10-2010, 08:25
Sorry buddy, I didn't mean it come across like that, I was typing that whilst eating my tea with the mrs giving me earache! The guy that did the work styled it round the prima design, in not too keen myself. Do you know of any meets in or around the northwest?

T1MWV
12-10-2010, 09:21
Hi 2 Live, you might be right but im not too sure to be honest. I cant get far enough under the car to be able to see what they have done. From the small amount of info I can find about this car, I think they modified the tunnel to take the cosworth drive train but i guess i need to get in on some ramps to have a look.

Went out for a spin last night and scared myself to death!

Need to order a new fuel tank today to replace the abortion of a tank that they have fitted in to the boot.

dimma
12-10-2010, 10:00

Awesome mate, absolutly awesome.
Do you know what suspension its running? 4x4 i would assume it has all the saphire/escort(?) stuff?

If i had to guess i'd say its a full sierra with the top cut off, a foot or so out the middle and the prop then a clio shell on top!

Get a cage init mate!

T1MWV
12-10-2010, 14:55
Cheers, yeh I have a cage on the ever increasing shopping list. :o Got to be careful as I have a nasty habbit of getting carried away with stuff like this.

Not too sure exactly whats what, im going to try giving Terry Pankhurst a call at weekend so he can tell me exactly what he did when he built it.

Will keep you all posted.

Hi I actually sold it to a good friend of mine who owns ST Performance in Retford, they are The UK Dimma Distributors. They did all of the work on my Williams which turned out fantastic. Its was going to be such a big job to get it back to how it used to be so I did the right thing and sold it to him to make the best out of it. He's made a good start on it so watch this space.
