Rear shocks query

Hi guys i need to replace my rear shocks, now the local renault agent doesn't stock shocks so i looked around the non original shops and they are all saying that the rear shocks for all clios are the same, as it doesnt mention a different part number in their books. the only brand that showed a different part number was Koni, but there bloody expensive.
Were talking non original ok so not the Renault part number.
I'm sure they would fit but what would the ride be like ?
