Got bored at work so did this.

Cheap of e bay and put some high temp spray on top .
Hope it will help keep the temp down in the bay and maybe even free up a horse or two.

10m by 50mm did the whole manifold with 1/4 overlap as stated in the instructions case anybody wants to know. Had about 1.5m left over.

Nice.

I recently took the wrap off my standard manifold and downpipe, I had specialist high temp wrap spray on it as well to reduce moisture build-up.

Underneath was showing signs of quite bad rusting tbh as the OE on is only mild steel.

I have a full Stainless Supersprint on now and that's wrapped too.

How was the rest of it Wobba, like the joins? I did a bit of research into this stuff, seems it does work (in the way of reducing engine bay temp) but problem is the heats now trapped, can't dissipate and just builds up untill the manifolds superheated (or something like that) They used to do it on Nascars, but then they'd replace the manifold each race. People have mentioned taking the wrap off and finding it was holding the manifold together!

The posh alternative is Ceramic coating, but that aint cheap!

Well, my manifold was glowing red after hard runs but that was due to the mapping being retarded with the ignition so much.

Just reading this as il be doing the same soon. Is it true that it causes it to corrode faster due to the moisture and the temps ?

Zircotec have just brought out a cheaper version of their coating. Not sure how much it would cost for a F7R manifold though?

Never had an issue with wrapping.
My stainless Devil manifold has been wrapped for the last 6 years +...
No issues at all - maybe just the wrap getting worn a bit over time.

"Hi,
How much for a primary coating on my exhaust manifold for a 1996 Renault Clio Williams? The engine is naturally aspirated 2.0 F7R and has an OE mild steel 4 branch tubular manifold. Would this be a good alternative to heat wrapping or similar in reference to performance, power, durability and reliability
Thanks
Chris"

"Hello Chris

Thank you for your email enquiry.

The price to coat a 4 branch tubular manifold in our Primary range is; £269 (only available in Black)
Performance White; £384
Performance Colour; £442
All the prices exclude shipping and VAT. Turnaround is a maximum of 10 working days with payment accepted via credit card or bank transfer.

It would be a good alternative to heat wrapping because;Zircotec coatings are proven for application to virtually every metal providing a high performance ceramic thermal barrier coating, which improves the efficiency of exhausts and prevents local component and chassis damage from radiated heat. In recent testing surface temperatures were reduced by ~33% for our Performance Range and ~25% for the Primary Range. Both are suitable for your exhaust manifold but for more details on these two coatings see our website www.zircotec.com

Our coatings are not paints but ceramics applied using a gas plasma spraying process which ensures an extremely well adhered, durable coating with an extremely hard and durable surface that is highly resistant to vibration, mechanical damage and thermal shock. The full process, which is suitable for both new and used exhaust systems, consists of: de-greasing, masking where the coating is not required, grit-blasting, spraying of nickel base coat and finally spraying of ceramic thermal barrier coat. As we use gas plasma spraying process the coating is to the external surfaces only with no preparatory work required by you but all items for coating must be sent to our facility here in England.

The natural colour of our coating is white/cream, but many of our customers call for the very highest level of performance offered by Performance White but also require a coating with a finish that can be more easily maintained. To meet this need Zircotec has developed a range of high quality multi-coat ceramic paint finishes that are applied over the top of our standard plasma-sprayed ThermoHoldT based coating. The full range of colours can be seen on the attached sheet. The Primary Range is currently only available in Black.

We look forward to receiving the items for coating in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information. Kind regardsMeena "

Thanks for posting the info. The 'primary' option is still not cheap then!

Too expensive. Heat wrap does the job too.
