Thought id paste it over here, might inspire some of you to join to the dark side ;)

Ill just copy and paste my projec thread from c16v.

So D Day arrives, i hadnt heard from the garage chap down the road so i was a little worried, i chased him up slightly later in the morning. But i was anxious because i had to literally role my car down the road to his garage which is probably 150m away and the car has been stood still for about 6 months, and the later i leave it the busier the road gets with traffic.

So i tied the exhaust up, freed the gearlinkage up which was smashed and destroyed and had wedged under the car and started . With a bit of a push i was off and made it fine, i had to sat truck my engine down the road, i got some rather funny looks lol! (pictures of that to follow, you will LOL).

Ok engine there and in the garage, off we go.

It was ****ing hard to line all the mounts up foxy 5th mount is a stiff cunt, and hard to line up the top mount with at the same time, but managed in the end with a bit of a push.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr no doesnt fit, this engine seems to tilt upwards compared to the F7R i used to have, no idea why, but cause the bonnet to massively foul the airfilter.

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q51/laine_16v/Ressurect%20PNX/DSC00666.jpg

With the bonnet shut, the bonnet touches the air horns :(

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q51/laine_16v/Ressurect%20PNX/DSC00668.jpg

Mock up of the smaller setup im going to have to run (flat backplate with offset upwards by about 1cm to make the filter sit lower and some 45mm/60mm trumpets instead of the 90mm).

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q51/laine_16v/Ressurect%20PNX/DSC00669.jpg

Going to make the backplate tommorow.

More pics later :D

So much still to do though :( But yeah its nice. Not one of the coolant pipes fit.

Driveshafts in today, welding the downpipe up to complete the exhaust system and then it time for the wiring. :)

My setup has te bonnet subtely shifted forward a little by using nuts on the stud bolts of the bonnet to act as washers, so when you bolt it in properly it sits foward and up a little.

Mine fouls the bonnet a bit too :( Thinking of cutting a section of the inner skin out, not sure if I should or not.

Its not the fact it fouls the bonnet due to the length, its purely the angle the engine is tilted at which is annoying. I could probably dial a lot of it out with an adjustable solid dogbone mount but they are poo. I shall do some tinkering over the weekend :)

As it stands...

As it stands..

You can see the bonnet deforms the air filter slighty, no bother though.

Nuts holding the trumpets inside the plenum... I think that's not a good idea. Are they at least secured with some loctite. You would be amazed how things get loose because of vibration.

^^^^^^^ In full agreement with this, well spotted. Looks awesome though mate.

Studs are threadlocked, the nuts are nyloc.

Well... You've been warned!

Laine_16v
15-10-2010, 20:55
Ill loctite the nuts on too as its ironic i killed my last engine because those exact bolts rattled loose, expensive mistake.

Would of thought you'd of found another way to mount it? Perhaps individdual filters?

Mount what? inidivdual filters compromise performance noticeably, sausage filter is the only wayto go imo.

I dunno mate I just don't want the same thing to happen to you again :(

Laine_16v
16-10-2010, 10:21
It wont, tell you what ill wind the stud out a bit further, re thread lock them, and then i will use the anti vibratoion washers that came with the trumpets with threadlock and nyloc nuts. There that good enough for everyone? :P

You're seriously testing my memory now

iirc this engine dropped it's valves, common weak point with the F4's, so he cut his losses & sold up. So the engine is dead but the car lives on with another owner
