Can anyone tell me what shape it is? I think it's M8 bolt (or whatever fits directly into the thread once you remove the plug). Can I just screw it in or is it machined at the end so it fits in the groove on the crank nicely?

I just slot the biggest allen key that fits in.

Tnx for this info!

I'd still like to make a proper one for future use, so any dimensions are still welcome!

i think its is 7mm pin with a locating thread on the end that screws in the block..

try an 7mm and 8mm bar..

then drill a bolt central and inset the bar
