I am running a fully synthetic 5/40 in my williams. When it is hot the oil pressure on the dash gauge is dire 0.5 bar at 900 rpm.
Question how is the pressure measured ? capillary or electric ?
Where is the oil pumps and is there a weakness in the bypass spring ?
Engine has only done 76k - may just try a 15/40 first.
Your thoughts gentlepersons please.

turbo runs about that on warm idle with 10w50 fully synth in it, so i wouldnt worry about that too much, whats it cold idle? i get about 3.0bar at 950rpm

williams sits at 0 when warm with 15w40 semi synth in it, but pretty sure sensor is bolloxed as its not blown up yet

My friends williams had a problem with the oil pressure gauge under reading. Not sure what he did to fix it think he might have replaced the transducer or something but it was defo the gauge and not the engine. If the engine had low oil pressure the oil light would illuminate.

The oil pressure guage is nothing more than a "randomometer worry guage"
Mine sits between zero and 0.5 when warm with 10w/50. But as most folks will tell you, its old and French and only start to worry if the oil light come on!

All sounding good so far, I looked at it earlier today and though the world was about to end....................expensively. Sits at 3.5-4.0 at start up thats why I wonder if the oil is a bit thin for a 16 year old engine.

10 w40 semi any half desent oil. It's not ment to run any anything else as you said it's an old style engine . Read the bloody manual renault built it they should know what oil to run it on.

I used to run 5w 40 fully synthetic but the engine seemed to use alot of it, since i moved to 10w 40 semi synthetic it uses alot less oil.
