Just picked up my inlet and rocker cover from the powder coaters and noticed the inside of the inlet is covered in dust same as the under side of the rocker cover. So I called the powder coaters up and asked “y is it covered in dust?” he replied “ I done bead blasting on it before power coating” he said it will be fine, just clean it up but I don’t believe him. So thats why im asking on here.

Im worried dust and other stuff is going to get in my engine after cleaning it up. Also am going to loose power? With the inlet now feeling more rough.

thanks

Get it cleaned properly mate, any form of media grit will ruin your internals,my first willy engine was eaten from the inside out with grit in the oil system.

power wash it, hot soapy water, be VERY anal about cleaning it, it will be fine, my inlet was the same after powder coating, but they should have taped them up tbh

Like Justin said, flush it through, then flush it again, ideally find an engineering firm with an ultrasonic tank

annoys me when i hear stories like this. When i did my tb and inleet it tooke me no more than 5 mins to tape it up. I still got a bit of dust in there but i just used a compressed air gun and blew it out. Should be fine.

Used a ton of carb cleaner & a jet wash to clean mine after I had it blasted, just keep doing it until the water that comes out of it is clean, then do it once more for good measure

Even if I wasn't having it powdercoated (which funnily enough I do have one being done right now!) I ALWAYS take the opportunity to do a major clean on the inside of the inlet manifold.

The rocker cover is less important I reckon and a damn sight easier to clean any crap off anyway.
