right theres a rattle coming from up front and i've done bal joints, so checked it with wheels off the floor and seems to be strut top mounts

i have had the struts apart and with the bush assembly and bearing all tightened to top of the shock there is play in the bearing up and down. it rotates fine, no griding etc when turned, but if you hold shocker and pull rubber bush up thats bolted via strut to the bearing there is play. could this be my noise? the shock itself seems fine, still slides nice and slowly, have to push to get it back in etc

also where can i get bump stop bush/dust covers from? mine are both kippered

cheers

Ben

If the rubber coated doughnut is going up and down despite being bolted in as far down as you can, and the little metal cap in place, then yea, there is something wrong and they will thud. Under the doughnut should be the rotational UFO piece right?

Overall strut build order...

Hard to see how there is play up and down tbh...unless the nut got loose and something isn't as far down the strut a it should be, or the doughnut is damaged...?

My AST knocked badly with just a little bit of up and down play...

its play up and down in the bearing definately, if you omit the spring and rubber and simply bolt the bearing onto the strut with the 'top hat' in place holding the bottom part of the bearing solid to the strut then you can grab the part that buts up to the rubber and move it up and down.

seems i need new bearings ;-)

Answered your own question there Ben, you just needed a little hand-holding from Wobba to do it ;)
