Right, I have a new job and need a workhorse of a car as the mileage will be high.

I'd like to spend upto £2,000 - ideally £1,500 as I'll be keeping the Trophy.

Diesel would be good as MPG should be as high as poss.

As reliable and new as poss would be good.

Thinking of a 306 hdi... Anyone have other suggestions?

Golf MkIV Tdi, Pug 406 Hdi or an early Mk3 Mondeo TDCi..... should be plenty around for the money you want to spend...

Upto £2000....be prepared for starship miles if you go for anything with a VAG engine.
French motors with less miles are cheaper.

I like them Mk1 Focus TDI's, I've thought about buying one as a second car in the past, look nice in black. Within your budget too

E39 beemer. One of the best all-rounders ever made! No comparsion to a 306 which I've also had in the past. I have a 540 now, which isn't great on fuel, which is probably an issue to most, but they do do a diesel engine one as well that may be worth looking at?

Slight increase in budget gets me a 206hdi... 2002/52, 90k, leather and goodies = £1,900.

Do we think a Williams would fit this bill?

Wife is saying no. Says I've spent too much on the Trophy. Pffft.
