Just changed the engine in a Valver i've got hold of, it was a standard 1.8 with a snapped cambelt and I have replaced with another standard 1.8. I originally used the engine loom from the new engine but it wouldn't start, have since swapped the looms over to the old and now she starts and runs BUT its not 100% right:

1) What is this plug and where does it connect? It wasn't on the old loom.

2) Is it a problem if this isn't plugged in?

3) When I start from cold it starts and runs fine for about 2mins but then seems to 'suffocate' nearly to the point of stalling and then revs itself up and runs fine for another minute or so, I have taken a vid of this (been edited to be around 15 seconds long, its me that kills the engine at the end, ignore the blowing exhaust!)

ANY help is greatly appreciated as I need to get this car running asap and don't want to pay someone to look at it!

Thanks!

Dan

Plug on the loom could be from carbon canister solenid (I think that's what it's for) and it's plugged close to your PAS tank a bit more inside the wing. Take out the headlight and you will see where.

Idle problems are probably caused by CTS (coolant temperature sensor) if you did not change your exhaust (and with it your lambda sensor). It's near the thermostat housing, I think it's the one with the white connector.
Mine is running exactly the same and I tried to change CTS but it's the same (but I probably have a knackered lambda). Change CTS first (17€ from GSF or 34€ from Renault) and report back if that solved your problem.

Oh and mine runs fine once it goes through this idle problem (which usually takes about a minute to sort itself out). Also when engine is warm it takes less time to start running normal again. Is this the same with your car?

Cheers robi, the CTS does seem a bit butchered so will be ordering a new one when i'm back from holiday to see if that cures it.

No problem mate! Please report back when (and what) you solve this issue!

First picture is the plug for the oil presuure sensor, some are part of the loom some have that plug.
