Working on Leighanne's Willy 1 again...I happen to take off the steering wheel and straight away notice this one uses the different design column, wich uses a nyloc nut on the end of the column, which is a threaded section rather than flat.

Both my cars have had the big torx bolt that goes down inside the column. The other thing I think is different is the length of the splines. Hers seem shorter.

I happen to have The Nana's steering wheel in my possession and tried putting it on to see if it makes a difference and due to the apparent(?) shorter splines, the Nana steering wheel does not sit well with it, leaving too much play and visually not going down the column far enough as well.

Yeah, i seen a few, most tend to be the torx bolt.

the only ones i remember seeing with that type of column is the very early clios(ie J reg etc), but not 100% sure if that is how they should be, both my 1993 valver and my old w3 have columns with the torx head bolt!

I have a welded nut type column in my garage iirc

So...it's normal but a rarity then ok. I can see in Diologys there is a nut option.

The ph1 I broke had a proper bolt to hold the wheel on and mine did have a torx bolt, but I lost that & used the other bolt

my J (086**** chassis number iirc) had a torx bit

my K (077***) has the bolt

bolt is much easier to work with imo :D
