View Full Version : Key problem
The battery has gone flat on my key for the williams went out this morning and bought new ones.
They are in the right way round and the light comes on in the key but the car does not lock.
This is a bit of a problem on my car as there are no locks in the doors!
I have not used the car for about 6 months and it worked before any ideas?
Is there something I have to reset?
Phil
Have you tested the lock button in the car?
Check the receiver connector, can get wet/corrode from leaks near the aerial.
You sure the car battery is not like, super-dead?

I have the same problem. My car was satin the garage for half a year without acco and I think it lost synhronisation between ECU and key. There's a procedure how to synchronise it again(something witl lock button inside the car and unlocking with key within 10 seconds betwen pressing the lock button inside the car). I hope someone will remember the right procedure. If that doesn't help you have to go to the dealers to do it for you.

I had to cut the plug off a different car and splice it to the IR sensor as it had gotten so corroded the wires inside fell apart. Just prise the plastic lighting and board out (careful, electrocuted myself there once lol) and have a look.
All looks fine in roof tried to put alarm on and that dont work now teach me for not using the car for so long!!!

What u gona do? U have taken out the reciever havnt u?
Could u not get a new reciever and new locks or sumthing will that be cheaper?
I dont use my locks at all....as ive got that alarm
Could try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a while.
So it locks but wont unlock? So one of the plips works?
was about to say, disconnect battery completely and leave overnight, try again
if that doesnt work disconnect ECU as well :D

I think the battery has been disconnected for a period of time over the months its been off the road anyway.
Hes changed batteries in the key fob bit. They work fine. Either the reciever or something else.
Worst bit is, hes got a cobra alarm.....the same alarm which totally disarmed my car for a good week or so....ended up ripping it all out and havign to spend £300 on a new one
Could the alarm somehow stop the central locking process in some way?
wouldnt of thought so, i have a cobra and the standard renault plip works totally seperately, i can lock up with the cobra and then use the plip to lock/unlock the car with no effect to the cobra and vice versa!

So it HAS to be somthing with the plip or the reciever then. As hes had the alarm turned off for ages as it goes off when it feels like it
I reckon its the reciever...
So am i right in thinking that to change the reciever and to have it recoded...its near on £90 from reno?
something like that
with it being a williams tho any set of plip and reciever from scrappers etc will work, even if its off an RT etc, any phase, and model, provided its a working set of plip and reciever.
oh if yours works miss loser, be a good girl and swap it into his car to test ;-)

Ahh good stuff. Ideally you wanna get down a scrappy, rip out the IR receiver and try to program it off you original key.
easier to just swap key internals

Oh yea
although would you believe it that theres a difference between phase 1 and phase 1.5/2 keys
