View Full Version : Where should I cut?

My car has a non standard slam panel which isn't removable. It was replaced many years ago when it had a front end bump with the wrong item.
I'm ready now to cut out the middle section so I can trial fit a new removable section, but... where do I cut? I think I need to cut flush against the vertical supports of the current slam panel at each side but I need to check. Can someone point out to me please at which point I need to cut the panel?

Er, it does have a removable slam panel, unless these pictures aren't of your car?

Just take them 4 bolts one and it will come off, might be rusted a little bit on though!

Maybe it's spot welded in few places and that's why it doesn't come off when you take the bolts out, but that's 5 min work with drilling machine.

Can you show us where the spot welds are? As Robi says, I would looks at machining the spot welds off either with a drill of some fine disc cutter work.

Maybe you just need to unbolts it and prise the panel off as it could be paint or adhesive holding the panel in place.

Before I get some pics of the spot welds, this might show things better as I've got these pics already.
As you can see, the panel is all one piece right the way from one side of the car to the other (it is not split into 3 pieces and so doesn't have a removeable middle section). To remove the panel, I would have to drill out all the spot welds on both sides of the panel on the top of the wings (and maybe some other places).

I'd also cut the drivers side further back too as its not enough imo!

Doh! - I should've thought.

If it's not too much trouble, a template would be VERY useful. I don't mind coming over to pick it up.
At least the measurements would be correct then.
