View Full Version : Oil Breather systems
Right "Oil breather systems" mine has a takeoff from the cam cover and from the Gearbox, these go to one central catchtank. Now this engine will probabley breath a bit more than the low spec engine so do i need a different system and it looks like my system doesnt actually vent to anywhere so could the pressure have built up and popped the input shaft seal where i think the leaks comming from. Box was recently 12 months ago fully rebuilt so doubt its age....?
What systems do you have and should it vent ?
Any help ?
do you have a separate catch tank..what's it look like does it have a filter on it
You mean the catch tank does not breathe to anywhere? I can see on your vid the orange bit(?) on the top. Is that the cap for it? Not a breather? If it cant breathe that would be a bit odd. As you know on the JC5 box there is a little nozzle on the topside with a bit of rubber pipe and a plastic cap. If my 'box gave off a lot of pressure it would easily blow this off.
as per pm
mine vents to atmosphere after the catch tank

I had a custom catch can made for mine.
Simply a tube within a tube - inlet separated from outlet.
Stainless steel exhaust pipe.
- It vents to the atmosphere
- Has two inlets from the cam cover
- Oil return to the sump (and ads a much needed breather area)
I have newer had any issues with the breather on my gearboxes so i did not bother with that.
