Thank you very, very much.

My favourite Renault of all-time. Must get one before I die! :)

Agreed. Although it's not technically a Renault!

Eh... what do you mean not technically Renault?

It's an Alpine. Different company back then. Affiliated though I think.

Blasphemy! (wagging finger) :)

A true blue Renault legend that taught Porsche a thing or two about rear engine cars and forced the creation of the mighty Lancia Stratos. They were da bomb (at least for a 10 year old me), especially those driven by a certain young Michelle Mouton. Mmmm :D

From The Renault File, Dove Publishing....

Alpine A110 world rally championship - 1973

"Although Alpine was still, in theory at least, an independant manufacturer, Renault had been quietly backing Jean Rédélé's company since 1971. The year before, the wraps came off a very special version of the 1600S, with a highly-tuned version of the 16TS engine producing a hugh 153bhp at around 7000rpm.

Alpine A110 - 1975

"Although Renault had been providing financial backing for Jean Rédélé and his Dieppe-based Alpine factory since 1971, sales had started to flag. Rédélé had signed deals for A110s to be assembled in Spain, Mexico and Brazil, but these did not improve matters. By 1974, when sales had dropped to under 1,000 units a year, Renault stepped in and took over a major slice of the company."

Done in by search engine again :) 8)

Yeah, think there was fair bit of rather confusing cross-breeding in the early seventies between both companies. It only became clear to me when and what happened much later (thanks to the many books on the A110). But to a very young me in those days, it was all about about the winning blue rally car that looked like a fish lying on its side. I really need to get one, but sadly, they are getting very expensive.

Think I saw one going for 30k pounds few months ago. Not many left, and not many owners selling. Probably cost more by now. Maintenance will be a nightmare but still want one. Think of it as being the last few Clio Williams left in year 2036 and you get the picture.

2 more pics of this beautiful small car

Well, the A110 was/is mostly fibre glass  Hmm... fb shell over a mini chassis might work. Has to be a small donor car. Think I will hold out for the real thing. :)
