View Full Version : England V's France williamsclio meet

Hi guys,

For the past few weeks I have been chatting to switch (from www.clio-williams.net) about organising a joint meet for both clubs. The idea is that we do one meet over there organised by clio-williams next year...and the UK boys travel abroad. Then williamsclio will host a UK track day and the French Williams owners will come over here in.

I am now pleased to announce the williamsclio.co.uk VS cliowilliams.net track day in France is confirmed for summer 2006.

The track we will be using is new to both clubs, and comes highly recommended http://www.mas-du-clos.com/circuit.htm

To make this work we have decided that we need 30 from England, and 30 from France. The hire of the track and hotel for the evening works out at £130 per car.

There will be petrol and ferry expenses on top of this cost, but this is the first time two clubs have come together. And will be worth while.
I will be seeking magazine coverage of this meet, and will be offering a place to the suitable magazines in one of our cars.

Can I have a quick list of people who can confidently confirm to the event please? I realise its a year away but this is going to take some planning.

To make extend the meet, scott172 is planning a driving holiday around Europe (2000miles) that we could incorporate to make the most of this opportunity.

So lets show the French who has the nicest and fastest set of williamsclio’s and put on a good show.

Jon - switch has organised the date for me...but i might be able to bring it forward to around late this year but then the weather will be against us.

Let me have a word and lets see what we can do.

J o n
22-07-2005, 08:21
don't re-arrange on my account, a summer trip would be better anyway... I'll have to see about getting a hybrid for it or something... or if I keep the valver and have some money in that time I can convert that...

northy
22-07-2005, 08:52
ok mate.

Switch is organising this event - im doing the uk one.

But check what you get for your money over in france. Trackday and hotel for £120 and thats expensive to the French.....ive explained thats a really good price over here...lol

Only reason I say time is an issue is that it doesn't look like I'm getting any hols this year, so will want some next year. BUT steph's sister is on about getting married in italy next summer and the kirmanator and I are mooting a Nordschleife visit as well.

Would I/we get a full refund if we said yes now but had to pull out?

Depending on the date arranged mike, and how much money is need to prebook the track, hotel and ferries - u might loose a little money but lets finalise a date first. and then you can confirm if you are avaliable or not.

SWITCH - is there a link to the clio-williams post you have made...would be nice to have some friendly banter with the french lads

I m really happy to know somes of you are coming for this great event. 8) It ll be really exciting too meet each other. You ll see french guys are really better for party than for racing  well for me it is haha.

I just want to tell you that, if you guys want to, we could organise a little party/break in paris two days evening before the race day. So for exemple if the race day is on sunday, why can't we do smething on the friday night in paris ? and then, let's go for Mas du Clos on saturday, and Race on Sunday. This is juste a proposition

Hope you would understand want i mean :?

we do on average 2 trackdays a year, a lot of 1/4miling at Santa pod and York, and national club meets like the french car show and Trax.

The next meet we have I will let you know.

What date has been decided for the Mas du clos ?

J o n
25-07-2005, 13:27
we try to have as many as possible I think, Northy's good in that he tries to organise the bigger events so that we can get everyone along to them. and Northy, it's not a race remember, keep it sensible and out the kitty litter

Side note, you gonna see if Adi is up for bringing the turbo clio along? would be nice to see how 240+bhp sits on track!

why does it have to be a track day? tbh I doubt the Clio's would make it over there and survive a trackday, granted, a lot will, but a lot also wont... I think a driving trip would be miles better tbh, just go round France and soak in the sights and have some fun on the roads and get beered up when not on them... there's other fun stuff to do that aint a trackday you know

you wont be calling it slow when it makes you look like your in reverse mate, 3+ litres is better than 2, plus BMW's can have after market cams and heads too ya know and it makes a hell of a bigger difference... or, there's always a supercharger for 3k fitted... hmm, 400+bhp anyone? you've no chance

2 live, no way 240bhp from ITB's, you'll need BE work and much wilder and better cams... and even then that might be pushing it... nah, I dont think I'm really to bothered anyway, TB'd Clio's will be faster, but tbh i'm not interested as much in speed these days, i've lost the buzz, hence getting a Beemer to drive like an old woman... lol

gearbox's only go on Reno's like this though, you'd be unlucky to have to replace one on nearly any other car... these your pretty much guaranteed to need a new one if you drive the car.

E36 are reliable as hell from all account, tbh I cant see it being anywhere near as bad and if it brakes I'll fix and get rid straight away this time... but I wont be joining any M power forums to let them talk me into keeping it time and time again

as for tyres there thankfully no where near that price, 17" on the E36's so i'll use me WC discount

... cant wait to get my own roads and motorway lanes

J o n

blinkered would be keeping the Clio and believing it wont give me any more trouble lol

I'd ****ing hate to brake down in europe in it... you know it would happen too... lol

A Nurburgring trip would be good, though Spa wouldnt be bad, would prefer the ring. could do some exploring around Europe if AA didnt mind

John, an E36 will still give you trouble. It might not be so often but I'd put good money on it costing a hell of a lot more to fix when it does break.

I still reckon Spa. Can be done for about £200 for the day and there's no noise restrictions.

no doubt, but as it wont be braking half as often i'm more than prepared to do that. unless my E36 was cursed by a voodoo witch doctor there's no possible way on earth it can even come close to the Williams in repair bills... so it's all relative, one bill may be bigger than the same work for the Willy, but I dont expect to be having 5 cam belts in the space of a year, or 2 brake overhauls on every item and bearing every year, or BE's going, gearbox problems, countless alternators and starter motors... the list is endless... I'd rather take my chances with a different car, I dont enjoy the Williams anymore, it's almost put me of performance cars for life and driving in general... maybe I should get a motorbike, miles cheaper to buy and run...

It's a bloody big, wide and fast track for a Clio though isn't it? I reckon they'll get lost there!

Plus most of the stuff that goes there is serious machinery. Having done Oulton with all those Brit Cars, I know that it's pretty off putting having to look in your mirrors for cars coming out of no where.

Or perhaps we could all just borrow Jesus's M3 once we get there...

 but,..... Spa? sorry lol.

id like a williamsclio weekend/roadtrip, but im not so sure a track day needs to be added onto it. id like to stay in the uk myself as i wont have the cash to blow on a trip to france/germany, im saying that, im actually just under the thumb and wont be allowed to do that lol.

nah seriously we should set a deff date, and get some ideas going IMO........

That may be Matt, but the 'ring wouldn't be much better. I'd want to do a weekday if I was doing the ring and tie it in with watching a 24hr w/e race.

Zollo
14-03-2006, 12:18
Yeah, true. Tere would still be a lot of faster cars at the Ring and some long straights, but at least it's tighter and twistier and a lot more interesting.

Any track that's designed for a recent F1 race is going to be not at all well suited for a hot hatch. Silverstone in my GTi6 was pretty boring compared to Oulton n Cadwell. Even Donington was boarderline too big.

So, my vote, The Ring!

Matt, I will be arranging a w/e in wales. A FULL w/e that is requiring stopovers etc. I want to do some of the mid-wales roads as well. N.wales police won't be scouring them. 8)

Must get round to planning it properly sometime.

Jamie.

Zollo, went around the evo roads last week, OMG v v nice! when/if the car gets through the mot on wednesday (please god please!!!) i'll vid some of the rds.

id like to arrange a meet in n.wales going around some of the best roads, the evo triangle and the a470, could pack it into one days driving or split it into 2...... best off camping in betws y coed, could even book ty croes again if ppl wanted a track day also. just let me know, id arrange it as my final n.wales meet as im moving to manchester in july.

Jamie.

Mike, is that going to be an Evo forum meet you're arranging, or a WC one? I'd be happy to do a full weekends driving n camp/b&b.

And good idea Jamie, whilst we're up there it would seem silly not to do Ty Croes :P
