Hi all im new here, i just bought my first clio its a 1.8 16v with a williams engine & williams gold wheels but wanted to lower it either 40mm or 60mm but i can not decide what to go as i haven't seen any at that stance yet.

Any chance someone could put up a pic of a clio lowered 40mm & 60mm for me please.

Thank you in advance :)

Welcome :)

My old valver used 35mm lowering springs at the front (sorry, its wasn't very clean and needed bodywork!):

My Williams is probably about 50mm here:

Personally I would say stick to Clio 172 Cup springs.

Mine have lowered it enough to look better, although it feels a bit 'stodgy' on turn in :?

Keep it standard height and it should be more fun I reckon!

(although I would note that I've not had my tracking done properly for a while and my tyres are getting a little low, so it could be that that's making mine less than perfect...)

Thank you both for your responses :)

To be honest ive been a ford nut for as long as i can remember but then my friend offered me this car so i couldnt refuse as i have a soft spot for them!!!

I dont want to do anything to it really apart from lower it alittle and clean it up so its mint condition as shes rot free so its only minor things im ding to her. Wheels have some kirbing so im going to refurb them to :) so ive decided to go with 35mm drop as its to extreme at 60mm for my comfort, as my fiesta is lowered 65mm and its to uncomfortable and i want to keep it very subtle...well as subtle as a wide arch clio can be. :P

heres a quick picture.

(shes really dirty to :( )

p.s Can you also answer me a quick question :) how can i tell if its being cammed? Ive been told it has a blueprint cam in her what code will she have on the cam?
I have no reason not to believe it as she has everything else i was told about. i.e exhaust system, green cotton filter and 2ltr williams engine, I havent even driven her yet either as i need to fit a powersteering pipe that burst :( All ive been told is shes a tad insane!

Cheers again for your input guys :)

OOo i was also told she has a williams suspension set up how can i check this?

sorry again for all the questions and probably in the wrong section to, as i said i was a ford man so all this set up is new to me (dont judge me)

Look at Wobba's second pic - the wheels are pretty much tucked up into the arches as it has a valver front set up.

The williams has the widetrack so is noticeably wider - with the 7j15 Willy wheels on they should come out nearly to touch the arch!

if you take the full dizzy off you should see the end of the exh cam, if its cammed will most likely be stamped on the end there,

as said above if you have the williams widetrack then the tyres will be pretty close to the front wings to the point they will rub once its lowered lol

Have a look at this thread for pictures of how the wheel/tyre looks on a williams widetrack :)

Not what you asked but its an excuse to show more pics and see the widetrack difference:

Valver in foreground with -35mm GSF front springs, Willy in background at standard height with widetrack.

I would stick with 35mm drop max with standard springs, otherwise it can get a bit messy with the suspension setup. My Williams runs adjustable coilovers now but even with that if you go too low it just becomes too unpleasant and not much fun on everyday crap UK roads.

Cheers again for all the comments guys!

Wobba your pics have been a great help, im not so sure if she is williams set up in that case :( will double check though. I bought 40mm now and they have arrived. I dont want to go any lower as the roads are appalling here anyway. As you can tell from the fez ride height. It gets bumpy.lol

Its fibreglass replica of the cossie bumper.

Cheers again to everyones comments and help :)

i think you may be right looking at it. Thank you :)

Guessing it will cost a bit to get it all wide tracked

It depends mate, if it is full valver setup you have then yea it may cost a bit.

Wishbones/balljoints x 2
Struts/springs
L/R Driveshafts

Don't need Williams subframe.

Think you can get away with valver track rods and ends but you have to wind them out a fair bit, can't remember.

You can pick up used Willy shocks/springs quite easy here. There were some R19 w/bones on items for sale threads earlier, and a pair of d/shafts with constant velocity joints/gaitors etc can be had easy from people like Mr Mat Brown.
