My car had a service on Wednesday.

What feels like the coldest day this year..... and the heaters have stopped working, completely.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Car is a moving ice block.

Cheers

Iain

Where abouts is the heater matrix bud?

Coolant hasn't been changed recently.

Mines dead too.

Fans and coolant are all good. I get a bit of ambient warmth from the engine. Its not great.

Well, if the fans are working and the coolant is fine then the matrix is probably blocked. What you can try is this...

Drain some coolant so the level drops below the bottom pipes in the coolant bottle, or drain completely.

Take the bottle off, and undo clips to the two coolant pipes that go into the bulkhead where the matrix lies.

Get a hose. Turn it on, not high, just a bit.

Stuff the end of the hose into the top matrix hole. Watch the crap get washed out.

Rinse and repeat for bottom hole. Keep doing this for some time.

Wash away coolant spillage and messy bits that came out.

Put it back together. If you drained the system from the bottom rad hose now is a good time to run water through the system to give it a clearout.

Refill with coolant/water to correct specifications.

Run engine till fan kicks in with coolant cap OFF. Run again with cap on for a while. Take cap off again, bleed excess air from rad from bleed screw at the top left. Top up if neccessary.

Cap on again.

Test heater with car running. Job done (or cry a lot if it is a fail).

as already recommended, attempt to unblock it first

if still no good then have to change it, bit of a fiddly job but with right knowhow and a bit of brute force can be done pretty quickly, took me and dan 40mins to do mine, but car is already half stripped which helped
