Cant engage second gear

I switched off the engine briefly the other day for a brief moment to pick someone up. When I started again, and moved off I found I couldnt get the car into second gear.

It feels like theres no slot for it to go into, or theres something punching back. Other gears seem fine, 1st might be a bit tougher than the rest, but the others all happily click into place.

Any ideas what could be the problem? I've never worked on gears or gear linkages. The circlip underneath is still in place, and nothing obvious obstructing the linkage...

Have you run over anything recently? Maybe bent the linkage?

Other than that it sounds like it's fubar'd, my old GTT box wouldn't select 2nd and it was dead.
