The new Toyo R888 are very nice, if you only want to tak ethe set on the car, however if u have a spare set of wheels then maybe you need to look at a set hoosier tyres.

I thought hoosier were drag racing tyres?

Yoko A048s are getting a lot of mention elsewhere. Oddly enough, so are P6000s. Apparently the teflon starts to actually grip at track temperatures!

If youve got trackday wheels then just get some heavily worn road tyres which are just about illegal for road use. Yes, Yoko 48's are extremely good, but to get the best from them you will want some heavy negative camber on the front and they also wont last 5 minutes.

Slicks and semi-slicks are frigging expensive and unless your competing or are loaded then not worth the money for trackdays.

Martin

so worn normal tyres are actually better than those with a decent tread?

It's getting some worn road tyres in time though Mark. I though about going asking my favourite fitters, but then you don't know whether the tyres are without defects (like busted sidewalls etc)

Worn tyres are much better on a dry track than tryes with good tread on. I have used lots of part-worns in the past for track use. Just give them a good inspection before fitting for any damage.

What I always used to do was run my road tyres down to the wear markers and then transfer the tyres to my trackday wheels and put new ones on the road wheels.

I've got some worn Avon ZRs. Just need another two and a tyre fitter at the track and I'll be sorted :?

Gaz, did you manage to find out whether they'll be a fitting service there?

If there's a tyre fitting truck there, I'll bring my new tyres for the journey home 8)

Anyone know for sure?

It now seems that all corners recommend worns as per Mark. Just got to source some now, or wheelspin everywhere for 2 weeks.

I was looking at getting the Yoko A048-R, the tyre has alot of slick surface with a few grooves - saw them on the vaux VX-R looked impressive. I think the tyre size choice is very limited in 15'' sizes.

I'm actually thinking I might just fvck it, get a new set of F1s on the turbines and then bung the others on the track wheels.

Theres a place down south that sell part worn slicks which aren't good enough for a proper race car but are good for trackdays. Think it works out about £30 a tyre.

Also my mate uses Avon cut slicks on the road on his Mini on the road and that grips like ****.

See ya

Make sure you stick the better tyres on the back.
I wouldn't recomend Toya T1R though I use them no9t bad at £32 fitted per corner but there very bad tyres. I've ended up stikcing them on my dci but there not as good. I spun the back out at the ring using them they just don't have as much grip as PE1's etc.

I hate having decent tyres on the back when on track. At Anglessey I will be running my (nearly worn out) Yoko A048's on the front and what ever crap is lyeing around in the workshop on the rear.

Also, if you want to run slicks or part-worn slicks (not good IMO) then consider this. If you drive fast enough to warrant the extra grip the slicks can generate, then unless you have over 1.5 degrees negative camber you will destroy the edge of the tyre.

If your running standard camber and you dont destroy the outer edge of the slick then your not driving fast enough in the first place to warrant them.

Just my tuppence worth.

So just get some part worn stuff then make, doesn't really matter on the make?

Or alternativly buy a full set of brand new and use them?

Depending on the money!

Mark_Ritchspeed

Brand new treaded tyres fall to bits on a hot track. Ideally get something hard wearing and with a stiff sidewall. The less tread the better.195/45's are also very good on the front.

i have some continentals aswell on spare wheels but there just shit lack any grip at all!

Mark_Ritchspeed

The less grip the better for a day on track.

Tyre changes @ Ty Croes

The nearest place to get tyres fitted is down in bangor - about 20 miles away
