oil pressure guage not working

my oil pressure guage does,nt often work allthough the car runs fine,do you think its likely to be the sensor or the guage/dial on the dash.any ideas of how to check this out.

Check spade connector on the block sensor. It's under the exhaust manifold on the drivers side.
