My Williams is going to be SORN'd at the end of the month for 6 months, I have a CitroenZX to use which I will switch to my current insurance policy with Privilege and cancel the Williams. My folks have agreed to let me store it at their house, but I don't want zero insurance policy on it, are there any companies which specialise in insurance when it's off the road (incase it gets stolen), and how much would I be looking at?

Help much appreciated
Cheers

Some Companies do a "sitting insurance policy" which covers for instances like this.

I don't know who do but just whack it in google.

Its soon going to be law that you need insurance whether the vehicle is on the road of off.

I've also had good experience with flux but I know from mates that flux have been absolute tossers with. It's a case of they're either really good or shockingly bad 1 or the other

BUT i havent claimed, and i hear this is where flux really let people down

I have claimed, although it was against a 3rd party through helphire so maybe not flux's doing.

They were being quite funny when I was looking at getting a different car earlier this year

F(l)ux were wankers for me and my brother:

Took a solicitors letter to get a refund out of them

They didn't tell me my insurance was up so I had no insurance for a month - then said "yeah, insure now and cancel later and you'll just pay for what you use" - so I did, except they then were going to keep about 40% of the whole year premium for two weeks...

They use Highway, who are the cheapest insurer ever, it seems, but are also the one with the worst customer service EVER - I once rang up and some bulldog of a woman pretty much refused to even listen to my logical reasons about being unhappy.

They are in hand with GAP insurance - who I rang and was quoted £99 for an immobiliser, and when I rang a week later to go ahead with it was told "that can't be right, we've never sold them at that price" So I paid more and they ****ed up my central locking, and would only come out again for a £75 call out charge that wasn't refundable if it was found to be not their fault - which, of course, it wouldn't have been...

Overall, avoid like a northern slapper with the clap.

Flux seem like hassle, I think I'll avoid

Anyone got any feedback on an insurance company called Hagerty?

Not sure on Hagerty tbh. Most insurance companies seem to end up much the same in the end anyway... lol

Try HIC as I've found them pretty good. Make sure you ask what the company is as you don't want to go with Highway... lol

You need to ask for fire and theft cover only. I think I paid about £100 a year when I had a car in the garage broken. (Bloody Fords!)

Isn't that only if it's taxed??

Yes, that law already came in recently. Rather than saying "If it is taxed" they state "If a vehicle is NOT SORNed" then you need to have it insured or they can send you a fine. I have vehicles in storage or that I just use on my private property/race tracks that I have no insurance for and it's not an issue as I have SORNed them.

i got rear ended october 2008. just before my insurance was to be renewed, they took all the discount off and took money out of my account before i received notificaiton.

after arguing with them for 2 weeks, i threatened to cancel unless they gave me my money back. the car was off road being repaired and i said they can insure it at the agreed value once it had been repaired. still they refused to budge. i went to the insurance ombudsman and they threatened to pass my "debt" onto a third party. i went balistic. they wouldnt speak to me and instead i could only speak to the phone operators and could hear the managers in the background telling the phone operator what to say. i was really nice with the phone operator and told them that they didnt get paid enough to deal with irate customers like myself and it would be best for me to speak to the management direct. the manager refused. eventually they threatened me again with passing it onto the debt collectors (they wanted a ridiculous amount of money for me cancelling). even the customer services director would not speak to me. eventually i told them to carry on with there threat as my claim through the ombudsman would eventally bare fruit. at the final hurdle they gave me a reasonable figure that actually just covered the days insurance in total.

besides the taking money out without my authorisation, the claim process was awful. i would happily pay more insurance knowing that when things go wrong the process is painless and the service is good. the service offered by flux (at the time) was very very poor.

very poor management when it comes down to claims and the threats of being put on a bad debtors list is no way to treat a customer.

I have been with Hagerty for two years now with no complaints. Also they don't charge silly admin charges for every time you make a change to your policy like flux do.

What you need is a policy cover of fire and theft only. Or you can go for a classic car policy as it will be your second vehicle. You will still be cover for taking it on the road and again the premium will be reallly low.
