View Full Version : Oh blimey, I think I messed my pants - Brakes cut out

Yeah so as the title says, was driving home earlier and all of a sudden my breaks just stopped working - pedal to the metal, and it *eventually* slowed me down - Thank god I wasn't driving fast.

Just changed the pads on there (Well about a month ago now) so can't be them - Haven't bled the fluid yet so maybe it was that...

Either way, using brakes as normal it now sounds like it's metal against metal - As I said I just changed the pads and had a look at them and they seem fine, so really couldn't be that...

Anybody got any ideas what it could be?

Not keen on driving until I manage to get this sorted.

Any input greatly appreciated.

100% sure one of the rear pads hasn't fallen out?

Hmmmm, I'll take a check - That would be a *real* pain in the backside.

Yep, inside rear brake pad fell out... Brilliant...

Pad is annoying, but what's *really* annoying is the fact that not only had the pad come out, but do has the little v shaped clip that holds the pads in there... *annoying*...

Not too sure how I can go about replacing that without buying a whole new caliper (Which I just can't afford at the moment) - Any suggestions?

scrap yard for the v pin mate, common on all rear disc renaults iirc

Thanks for the advice - Just called the local yard, the bloke says he's got loads... Phew... Well, another £20 - All adds up this don't it....

Thanks for the help.

Local yard didn't have any - dicks, 'oh yeah we've got loads' ok, thanks for that mate.

Anyway, turns out the only way I can *quickly* get one of these pins is buying a refurb kit for the brakes from Renault - £27... Ouch.

Oh well... The joys of owning a Clio.

I think halfords also do break pin thing kits as I saw them hanging up last time I was there, but I'm not sure if they're a proper fit or not.

Loosing a rear pad would cause that much of a brake failure? Didn't know that! Sheesh!

I didn't even think to look in Halfords... What a donut.

Yeah I guess because the piston needed to extend that much further, for the first couple of times I tried to brake nothing happened at all - Was a really worrying experience.

I think they were about £4/5 quid...........still a bit steep

At one time you got them with your pads in the box (big rip off)
