Had a little breakdown in the hybrid last night.
Either the clutch or the gearbox.
Question is..
If its the clutch, whats the best one to replace it with? Car is 180ish bhp, looking for around 200 odd in the coming months, so don't want to be changing clutch again.
Then, if its the box, what to replace it with?
Valver box in there at the moment, and im more than happy with the short ratios, but is a willy box stronger?

Thanks.

Nobody have an opinion?
Im not after a diagnosis, just peoples opinions on what suitable replacements may be?

gearbox either, willy ones are supposedly stronger but i've managed to kill one in a few thousand miles. so just go for one thats got a decent history behind it if you can, jb3 or jc5, ratios are same in both so no issue on that so long as you stick to f7 series clio fitment ones

clutch, just grab a valeo standard williams one, good to 200bhp no worries and nice and smooth, if you want something with a bit more bite tho can go for the uprated renault 5 turbo clutch. both available at GSF for about 70 quid for the full kit

Willy box would be alright, still not bomb proof though. Cant say on clutch though

Many thanks. 8)
I have a R5 turbo clutch in there at the moment, but unsure of what sort of power they are good for?
If 200 is ok, i shall get another, i quite like the feel of it.

Box....have read a little on jb3, jc5, how much modification is an early 172 box, any stronger?

The car is mainly used for trackdays, and weekend blasts, not sitting in traffic everyday.

early ph1 172 box will fit fine if you dont have ABS. all you need is the Mk2 battery tray and gerabox mount. i run one in my turbo

Abs? HELL NO !!

So, early 172 (cup?) box, with the battery tray and mount. Straight swap??

yep, just make sure it is the early one with the mechanical speedo drive slot in the gearbox

r5 uprated clutch would be best bet, should take more hammer if all you do is track it and the extra snatch on the pedal wont be an issue if you arent driving it day to day in traffic etc

Yes, trackdays and blasts early on a sunday morning. 8)
Although, oddly enough, the above problem occured when i was on my way fetch the daily from the other halfs!!

Eitherway, the car is at the garage now, awaiting my friend to pull it apart.
If its the box, where the hell do i look for a 172 box?

breakers, ebay, cliopsort maybe. they arent that common and can go for quite a bit so keep eye out for jc5 out of a megane 2.0 coupe or something as well as thats same and will fit with the newer battery tray

Right, update.
Luckily? It wasn't the box or the clutch, it was the circlip on the passenger side?
Tried bending (bodging) it back in place, and it lasted for 4 miles of very steady driving before going again.

I've got a new one coming tomorrow from Renault tomorrow, will this fix it, or is the same going to happen again?

could be fine but think its a common fix to get it secured with a few spots of weld :)

Will the weld do the job?
Have read on here a few are not keen on it?
