I've noticed that there are two different styles of rear wiper arms that are randomly present on all Mk1 Clio's, a fairly thin standard looking one and a much thicker one that almost looks too thick for the car.
What's the story on these? I'm assuming that the thin arm was the original?...in which case why are so many Mk1's fitted with the thicker arm??

It's just one of the differences between the ph1 & ph2's, the thicker one being on the ph2

Close...
Phase 1's had the thicker ones fitted and phase 2/3 had the skinnier ones.
Washer jets are also in a different place.

What wipers are meant to be used with the rear wiper on Phase 1's? I have to bend mine to make it touch the glass properly.

It's a bit of a special one, has a funny clip on it.

Thanks for clearing that up Mat.

Looks like my Willy1 has got the correct thick arm after all - I've been trying to track down a thin arm for ages without any luck....glad I didn't now!

On a related note, how do you remove the wiper arm from the motor after you've removed the nut, without bending/damaging the boot paintwork?

I've tried to remove mine as i need to replace the motor but no amount of pulling would pop it off?

I have a little nut-cracker type device that gets them off a treat, pop round and i'll get yours off for you.

Use a normal ball joint splitter, works a treat!

Pop round and Mat will get your nuts off for you?

I'm not sure if that's a good or slightly scary offer! ;) LoL

Its the sort of offer that'd appeal to Shackal. :D

It gets annoying though when he keeps knocking on the door at 3 in the morning!

Do you have to buy the new wipers from Renault or are they available from elsewhere??

I've had that problem too. It's really annoying. I even thought of getting one of those newfangled 'aero' blades, but I reckon it would just look wrong?

Just for info, I managed to get a rear wiper from Europarts for £5 and it's spot on.

It's nice seeing behind me now but at my age, races are a thing of the past so rear view mirror is normally empty!
