I was cleaning my engine bay this afternoon and the heat shield fell off.

Its very tatty so me cleaning behind it kinda pulled it off.

Now, my question is... can i still drive without it or should i really fix it back on somehow till i get a new one?

cheers

It will be fine without one, plenty of people drive without it.

Use some bigger washers.

Poor advice telling people to leave it off IMO, especially at this time of year.

A valver has caught on fire before when it didn't have the manifold heatshield, and this was on a rolling road.

Also your brake fluid will be far too hot and so will the throttle cable which could damage it.

I'd replace it if it were me.

Cheers guys.

It's in place for now with some bigger washers, am going to buy a new one though.

How much roughly are they new from Renault?

Last I head was around £70 but I dare say its doubled or something stupid.

Get a cornflake box, tin foil and spray mount and get Blue Peter on it.

its fine with some bigger washers on it.. as long as its not hideously disfigured (and still looks presentable)
itll be fine :)
they just tend to tear through the washers and fall off..
if not.. im sure mr brown will have one for you :). saving you money and a trip to the parts desk

why will that happen mate?

£56 isn't too bad i guess, will make the engine bay look nicer, lol.

i fixed my old one with the metal tape you can buy, filled the holes with some welders mat and renforced it with some washers, then you just tape over it and it looks good as new ;)

Haven't heard that story, I retract what I said straight away!

yep heard a tale of fluid boiling, excess heat for brake fluid or power steering fluid is not healthy imo
