I nipped to Asda on Saturday evening and decided to take a look under the bonnet, as i usually do now and again, lol.

The lid on the expansion tank had the spring sticking from the lid. Is this a safety catch or something? Problem is that it broke the lid in the process.

Does this usually happen?

Coolant level is normally just below 'max'

Never heard of that happening before :S

The header tanks usually give way when the coolant gets too hot or boils

with what i understand from your description it sounds
like the cap was not releasing pressure as it should do .

what color cap are you using ?

white and brown mate. think its the same one as it's alway been.

I changed the actual tank for a new one last year but kept the screw lid.

i sell them for £7 delivered provided you send the paypal
payment as a "gift" (paypal wont bumm me for commission :wink: )
however i have no brown caps at the minute , having said that
i reckon you should be running a blue cap anyways but i dont
want to start another debate on this one :D
