After paying a total of £1500 to have my box checked over, oil seals replaced, gripper LSD diff fitted the gearbox blew up after -100miles. Hole in the side of the diff housing, 5th gear cover got smashed almost off and I picked up roller bearings off the floor once the gearbox had locked and jammed in gear. Sent box back to CTS after the Big Blow up who refused to repair it under warranty. They said it was a gear set failure yet also mentioned that they have had no other issues with other vehicles running my exact setup such as Renault 5 Turbo's running much more torque. Is this just to piss me off further? No warranty given and I will have to pay labour rates, modifications to crown wheel, shipping costs etc all over again. Going to trading standards...

Currently running a JB3 gearbox I got for free from Laine and i've smashed the living shit out of it to the extent it's been scrabbling in 2nd and it's ready for further abuse. Excellent

Competition Transmission Services are FUKING DOG SH1T!

Facts are:

They rebuilt it
It blew up shortly after.

Nuff said really, cant see how they can even think they arent at fault.

Trading standards indeed.

Sounds like they are just trying to fob you off with a dumb excuse. I don't think they've got a leg to stand on. At the very least they should offer a complete rebuild. Giving them the chance to put it right.

Who supplied the gear sets? You or them?

How many days after you paid for it did it blow up?

do they offer a warrenty as standard?

My personal experience of these guys only got as far as ringing up for a quote. The guy was over priced for a general rebuild (the quote he gave me) and sounded like he didn't really have time to talk to me, so I went locally.

Go down there, point out what stan and summeh have said, tell em ur give them a last chance to sort it out off their own back otherwise u have no option but to contact relivant authorities!

Word it exactly like that and they really should pull their fingers out!

sod the messing about. Got on the blower today to trading standards. They are brutally uprated! Told me exactly what to do so i'm following their instructions and writing a letter to CTS and keeping a copy for court if it happens to get this far. CTS said they will not repair the box on their own back.

Have a guess what condition I recieved the gearbox in after it was "overhauled" I asked for a thorough check over of everything and to go ahead and replace anything that looks worn or damaged. Included in the bill, I have Strip & Rebuild, full set of bearings & seals... Now, what they failed to notice was that the clutch fork pivat bush had worn right through to the metal...They drain bung was finger tight or should I say finger loose when I got the box back from them. I also took the liberty MYSELF to spray the titanic looking manky gearbox they sent back. Savagely WANK service. AVOID!

Going to trading standards...

Me mam works at trading standards, and its always a grey area when something like this appears.

The simple answer to your questions/anyones issues with things like this, and I quote, from trading standards...

'Would you expect a product of this age to defect'

Answer is no, whether you'd thrased the **** out of it or not. Maybe if you'd done 1000miles, but not if you say 100.
