View Full Version : Torsion Bar fitting
Have been trying to put back my torsion bars on my refurbished beam.
Have got one installed okay but whilst putting in the other one have managed to damage a couple of the splines on the centre bit.
Does any one know if it is possible to drive the car with only one in?
If not, any ideas on how to fix the problem?

how badly damaged? you could probably get a file and make them good enought to slot in

I am currently trying this.
Not sure if it's going to work though.
Thanks for the reply

i am guessing you tried "bash the fookers in" method on them ?

Yes.
I think that's what caused the problem.
I thought it had gone in so I tapped it in with the hammer, but it would'nt go fully in.
When I took it out again I noticed that a couple of the splines had lips on them.
without seeing the damage its hard to tell if they are
gonna work once filed up and fitted back on tbh .
you never bash the torsion bars in though ,if they are not
going in by hand they either have not lined up properly
or ,you have not cleaned and greased them good enough to
slide in the splines .
ohh and if you drive with one bar missing you will end up
killing youself btw . but please make sure someone takes
video of it if you decide to do so :D
Good news :)
The filing & then hitting it with the hammer has got it eventually in.
Only thing it might be a bit low now but I am not taking it out again.
