View Full Version : how do you identify
a 2 litre 16v head gasket against a 1.8 16v ?

measure the size of the holes for the bores

Dunno tbh :? For all I know the gaskets could have some leeway to accommodate a rebore, or maybe not
I'm sure if you post up the measurements someone will be able to tell you what it is

i would not ask if i had both gaskets to hand ,it would be quite obvious from what you say anyways
however the 2 1.8 gaskets i got here have different bore diameters allready
(measured with a digital caliper  )
not that important in lowly mass produced engines, less than 1mm difference in bore diameter anyway, so less than 0.5mm radius difference. the spesso gasket i use is same part number for both engines

so are you saying it would be fine to use a 1.8 gasket as long as
the bores are cleared on the gasket ?
in fact are 1.8 and 2 litre head gaskets different at all ?? :D
i wont condone the use of the 'wrong gasket' all i'm willing to say is the aftermarket spesso gasket i use in the turbo is same for both 1.8 and 2.0 engines, its says so on the tin :P
