just discovered the girl who had the car before me only ever put water in the header tank for 4 years !!! so may have some corroded water jacket action going on [which explains the blocked heater matrix]. another mate still has the f4r from his 172cup laying around . newer engine cheaper on parts and more readily available so seems like a good idea but ......... its a series one

172 cup ancillaries are no good, you'd need ph1 items

engine is fine though :D

yeh why not

i've put an F4R in a cup racer shell, some people would say that's sacrilege too

i think it's awesome, when it works

personally I prefere the drive/powerband from the f7r. with the f4r you have to rev it past 5k to get any kind of power. below that and its quite tame.

my f4r feels atleast as torquey low down as the f7rs i've driven :? - even with a 1.2 map

infact, I'm sure i've seen somewhere that the f4r has more torque across a wider rpm range than the f7r

maybe the mk2's weight and extra 'refinement' hides this?

Aye even the generic remap I have done myself irons out a lot of that.

Yep. Similar percentages of torque of both the F4r and the F7r (iirc 80/85%) is available from somewhere about 2250 rpm. F4R more power overall - therefore more torque lower down in comparison.

I've never had the pleasure of driving an F4'd hybrid, but have driven plenty of standard and lightly tuned 1*2's and the F7 deffo feels like there is just more available torque low down. Driving 2 live's track toy this week has reminded me how much nicer they are to drive mod for mod over a Mk2 though... that and 00051 is incredibly fast, in fact I think it would do okay against my 172 upto 90-100mph

probably mostly the gearing making it feel different

Dont the 172's run JC5015 box's aswell? People use them in the Mk1's....I think weight is something to take into account, that along with the rawness you find in old cars. The 172's i've driven feel more down on power before the cam band / peak efficency period. They never seem to get off the line like an F7R mk1
