Since fitting the engine to the hybrid the first two times I started the engine all was well.

After then I noticed the battery light was not coming on when I turned on the ignition and by checking with a voltmeter I know the battery is not charging.

What do I need to do?

back to basics m8 if u have fitted engine recently and worked ok initially then maybe bad conn on alternator just go over it and check thoroughly then check earths see how u go good luck

Checked the alternator plug, even took it apart and cleaned the connectors with boiling hot water.

I thought if there was a problem the battery light would stay on when the engine was running (as this happened on my williams once) and not remain off all the time?

if ur def sure your not getting a voltage across the battery of 13.5 to 14.5 volts when u increase the engine speed then could be either the voltage reg or alternator thats faulty, worth getting it tested providing all connection are sound and charge warning light bulb hasn't blown

Battery was disconnected and one wire at a time was placed in boiling water.

The voltage across the battery is 11.8 while running and does not increase when the revs are increased.

Is the 1.2 alternator the same as I have a spare?

I might take you up on that but will check if I or a mate hasn't got one spare first.
