I suspected this when I removed it, but one of the three bolts that holds the gaitor to gearbox clamp is, like my hub nut, threaded. It felt wrong when putting it back in and I was right, lots of threaded alloy came out after inspection.

I am going to try a shorter oversized bolt, but if that fails, I guess I am ****ed.

Track day on Wednesday. Why is my car such a fag?

Im trying metal epoxy. If I can seal it up ok, I'll put 'box fluid in, and when I have money helicoil it for a new bolt.

try a longer bolt. I've stripped a couple, and there's normally enough thread left further down to screw into. Helicoil it as soon as you can though

Thanks Dan.

Ok, well the metal epoxy is holding, phew. Short term remedy though.

It's (as usual for me) the worst of the three bolts to helicoil. Hardly any access width-ways.

Box fluid is in, car is on the ground, no leaks so far. Bone dry. The other two bolts are held well and torqued up.

I'm hoping vibrations/heat/stress dont open up gaps, but in the meantime I have some spare fluid in the car...

I can see there may be extra room for a bigger bolt. I may try that before I helicoil it.

Can anyone recommend a good helicoil kit? Bare in mind it's tight access there and I wont be taking the engine out...

i use longer bolts along with a nut to press the gaiter against the 'box

seems to work well so far :P

If not too badly stripped, and then Araladite (or similar) adeshive,a stud long enough to to come thorough the steel gaiter plate ~~ It is easier then to put nuts and washers on .

I will be fixing this properly, but for now the metal epoxy in the hole with the bolt has held and no leaks!

Thanks for the advice on the helicoil kit, I'll go look :)

i had this, many people on clio16valver said they used chemical metal/epoxy to hold it in so i cant see it being a problem.
i tapped a new thread in mine and used a bigger bolt, its as good as new.
