been looking for a new car on autotrader and wondering what you lot will be replacing the Valvers and Willy's with??? Heading my short list is the Mitsi Evo 2/3 and the BMW E36 M3 (non Evo)

E36 M3 gets my vote. Though I'm sure someone will tell you the Mitsi will be a lot quicker

Mmmmmmmm, E30 M3 Sport Evolution 8) . That's what I want to replace the Willy with, though it'd be 2.3 Evo, as those Sport Evos are a lot more. :(

Impreza turbo of some sort. They'll be cheap as chips by the time I get round to buying one

would love a Delta, but they are A) overpriced B) slow and C) LHD... all of which are a big turn off... not into the E30's looks either, plus it's not as quick and iirc doesn't have LSD as std.

I couldn't own a Scooby either, bad image and the only shape I like is the classic... I also prefer NA power, turbo's feel a lot faster than they actually are...

Mits Evo's are supposed to be great fun tho too, ealier models supposed to be great for broad sides lol

Hairy muff :D

Have you thought about an E36 M3 GT? Not many about, so would be difficult to find one, but they do have 295 brake instead of 286. Kind of like a development model for the 3.2 Evo, but retains the 3.0 single vanos system.

Also have sexy seats, adjustable front and rear spoilers and, I think, lighters wheels.

One of the guys from Evo has just bought one for a track car

Tough call, but my vote would go for the Evo. E36 M3 is a little too grown up for me and although extremely quick and grippy is lacking that little something for the driver. I would prefer an E30 M3 or 320is M over an E36 anyday.

Evos are very much like hot hatches with lightning steering, awesome chassis but with nearly twice the power. For the 1/4 milers amongst you a standard Evo2 is around 13 secs on the strip and under 13 secs to the ton.

Grales I agree are not very quick, but still plenty desirable.

i'd get the Evo, so much more potential than the 3.0 m3 - and safer to drive hard being 4wd

THINK I WOULD GO FOR A MITSUBISHI EVO 4/5 OR AN ESCORT COSSIE, ALTHOUGH CUM TO THINK BOUT IT, A NICE 3 DOOR SIERRA COSSIE IN MOONSTONE BLUE!!!!

TwisT
08-07-2005, 16:11
i know rwd is more fun,it depends on the confidence of your skills but sometimes slipups occur.... if you could take a corner at 80 in the evo, would you try and drift it at 80 in the M3, rather you than me, those tree's look quite hard

SORRY, most of passwords are in capitals and only remember to turn caps lock off after ive stopped typing! sorry

a friend at a local garage has got a gtr and gts, think of the amount of petrol he goes through, let alone insurance

J o n
08-07-2005, 16:41
Twist, taking a corner flat in 5th in the Williams bouncing of the limiter and borderline traction is safe, so would have to be going a lot quicker than 80mph corner to scare meself, but yeah I know what you mean... i'd deffo be up for trying it though, it's all about the thrills :D

Yeah, totally, i want to feel the thrill of the 'liners turbo kick me back in my seat as 500bhp of skyline takes off, ive never understood the "i just want a car to get me from A to B" people

J o n
08-07-2005, 17:09
nor me, a car is there to be used and driven... hard if it's sports/performance car... as for Skylines dont get a GTS, they are shit mate, 2.5 not 2.6 engine, different internals iirc and missing a turbo and the RWD aint that clever compared to the 4WD on the GTR, which goes RWD when it needs to.

LEIGH-ANNE
08-07-2005, 18:05
GTR definatly, even has private plate gtr too

not really sure which handles better tho

J o n
08-07-2005, 18:26
no comparison to be made between the GTR and GTS, the GTR is better in every way. the 4WD on it senses traction loss and powers each wheel individually for maximum grip and safety, so once you moving on the motorway it will go to RWD... the GTR Tommy Kaira is the car of my dreams 8)

Horsepower: 420 bhp @ 7800 rpm
0-60 mph: 4.2 sec
0-100 mph: 9.8 sec
Quarter Mile: 12.4 sec @ 112 mph

Not bad for a production car made in 2002

hmmm, just been looking at a Scooby WRX STi Type RA with silly power and lightweight panels for £7k with only 19'000 miles on it... insurance is shit cheap too... £800 Fully comp... worth considering? Like the classic shape ones, especially 280bhp plus models

J o n
13-07-2005, 12:48
STi 6 iirc, it's the last of the Classic shape on a '99 plate... apparently this one is standard but they are claiming 320bhp... according to some places though it's only 280ish, but weighs 1270kg... and has aircon! :D

The RA would be my pick of the scoobs, lighter weight, close ratio box, some had adjustable diffs, plenty of power std, and the sound of the turbo boxer engine = perfect 8)

J o n
13-07-2005, 13:14
yeah they do sound lush, just a shame about the bad chav image associated with them... that's the main put off and the looks... dont get me wrong, I like em, but I dont love em like I do the Williams... :(
bang for buck they do seem much better than the Evo's tho, can get a much much newer better spec'd car... okay, so it's not as fast or good handling, but it's cheap and fast... lol

Jamie.

1 of 3;
evo 7
impreza p1
trophy

J o n
13-07-2005, 13:42
dont wanna spend anywhere near the amount those cars would cost, plus I think the STi Type RA is faster than the P1 or at least as fast and certinly quicker than the Evo 7... as for the Trophy... it's French... moving away from Euro trash to Jap Crap... lol

Jamie.
13-07-2005, 13:48
sorry must have misread post, didnt think that money was that greater object after seeing the cossie, BMW and lancia delta as they must all be 8-10k? mind u there still cheaper then what i said lol. i think if i had bout 6k to spend agen i would have a more serios look at rx7's. i think they are v nice and go very well. other wise i maybe tempted by buying an old renault 5 and heavily modding it. other than that id try to get as "newer" evo as i could...or maybe id just stick with the williams!

J o n
13-07-2005, 14:09
sticking with the Willy is deffo NOT an option sadly. lol

think for the money I could get an Evo 4 at a push, but a Scooby with less miles and much newer would be more sensible... as would GT4 Celica or an M3... the M3 is the car I really want tho... prices are all over the place tho, they range from 6-9k and some 6k ones have seem more attractive a buy than some 9k ones with 100k on em... :? weird

how bout a mitsi gto?? lol

nah, bit too medalion man for me that... plus, not that fast and group 20 insurance... need something that will leave the Clio for dead and has a 60-100 time in 8 secs or under... only the M3, Evo and Scooby meet that criteria... at a guess yours was around the 8-9 second mark before it died... based on guess work and comparisons to other cars on LetsTorquebhp.com

Martin
13-07-2005, 15:20
Aye fast clios are around 9secs..

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 170
Weight without Driver (KG) : 880
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 196.28
0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.81
0 - 100 (Secs) : 14.88
60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.08
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.24
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 97.80
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.04
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 99.57

I'd like the Scoob stis and the evo 3s you pick them up for reasonable money nowadays...don't fancy the insurance/running costs though...should work out cheaper for you though Jon the amount of trouble you had with yours!

Swervin_Mervin
13-07-2005, 15:26
E34 : 60-100=6.98s

J o n
13-07-2005, 15:26
hmm, i reckon your car has more power than 170bhp tbh mate... more like 180ish and a drag 1/4 mile is exacltly that, with drag radials... so your IS faster than that :D

I seriously reckon a Scooby or M3 would be cheaper to run than current car you know... by quite a bit.

Zollo
13-07-2005, 16:59
lol. Stop ignoring Mervin. A nice 3.6 M5 would be perfect :D

Or an Alpina B8 - 4.6 litre V8 E36 8)

J o n
13-07-2005, 17:41
hmmm, M5... you seen the running costs? for the average middle aged man the 3.8 motorsport cost's upwards of 15k a year to run (this includes petrol and insurance and average wear and tear) so I read... thats worse than the Willy! lol

the V8 Bimmer would be big pimpin' but tooooo much £££ for me! Plus, if I was to be that crazy I'd get the B10  muhahahahaha

Swervin_Mervin
13-07-2005, 17:44
The 3.6 is the one to have. Not as popular but still fvcking quick. I know someone that's just bought one, and aside from getting it straight mechanically they're not too bad I think.

It is, however, the unknown quantity of what might be wrong that would be my concern. This guy took a BMW specialist with him though and luckily enough he used to service the very same car!

hope people dont mind me joining in :D

ne way been looking at a few cars over the past couple of months,

short list was
saph cossy (rwd)
supra tt (after being in a high speed spin the other day in a uk tbar tt and it nearly rolling really put me off)
r33gtr (highest insurace nice cars but wanna wait a few years then will get a 34gtr nur spec)
mitsi eclipse (jap import nice but a bit :? lol )

then finaled it down to these 2

http://www2.ttcn.ne.jp/~light-blue/P9240109z.jpg

silvia s15 spec r looking around 10-12k for jap import not released in uk around 20 in the uk atm, nice cars been in 1 very nice but price and not being able to have a wide choise of cars puts me off.

so looks like im pretty set on 1 of these

http://malice.stx-hosting.com/images/s14purple_01_10x7.jpg

pick em up for 4-7k now maybee less looking to spend around 5k and then blow 2-3k on it straight away, tein street drift spec coilovers, tein droplinks and controll arms, exhaust and rims... love the standard look but would smooth it, chop front bumper and fit a front mount remove rear spoiler completly and then concentrate on engine 3400 for a fully lightened and ballanced bottom end, low comp pistons, uprated headgasket, inlet and exhaust mani's matched and all fitted so basically new engine and they guarantee them to 380bhp done straight line drags and trackdays... wanna go sideways now :D

opps massive image lol

yeah they are fukkin amazing cars, my fav was the 400bhp M5 that has only recently been replaced... still my fav that one :D

Malice, I take it your a turbo fan then?
Thought about one of these bad boys if you like Skylines? Thisnk this is the one to aim for imo... or the Tommy Kaira (02)

Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R Nismo Z-Tune, 490bhp (as std!), 0-60 in 3.5 ish and 0-100 in 8.5 secs... FAST, oh yeah, and you can tune em... best thing about the Nismo's tho is that every car can have an N1 race engine put in... Skyline one is a 2.8 with circa 500+bhp iirc... lol

lol u could say that, but tbh a s14a is gonna be around 1500-1800 on insurance for the spec and age i want lol, want the nur spec r34 for the switchable diff lol, flick 2wd flick awd :D

thought about scoobys etc but next car has to be rwd and turbo simple as lol, a m8 of mine has a r34gtr vpsec and a saph cossy, that im insured on lol he also has a audi rs8 and a cayenne turbo lol, r34 is around 600bhp lol single turbo convertion a hks t040z turbo (say bye bye £8k) spent 30k on engine pretty much lol, driven it a few times and it SHIFTS but i really dont like it lol, we did gloucester to bristol (about 25 miles) in somthing like 16 mins topped out at 180naughtyness lol and i have never been so scared lol, i prefer his saph lol was in fast ford 450bhp and u can feel every bit of power, first time i drove it i span it on a roundabout and kept foot planted LOTS of smoke lol, i thought he was gonna go crazy at me, but he was telling me to carry on lol, he also had a 300zx stupid power too, with n20, and i drove it in the space of 15 mins we needed a n20 refill and 2 new rear tyres lol, he loves cars and money doesnt matter to him lol....

if i could afford it a big power saph cossy would be the choise but atleast with a 200sx i can get some reliabillity out of it, and they look fairly unoticable so i wouldnt be too worried about parking it lol.
