anyone know can the lock be removed from the cap on the williams and be exchanged for the lock from a williams 3 cheers :) :)

The locking part does pop out of the colour coded cover.
But you can get different lengths on the locking mechanism.

have you tried the key? i found some dont need the right key for the lock

Yeah all caps/keys are universal as far as im aware on the Mk1's.

You would need to check the distance to the tabs that rotate to lock.

Some people have found there keys work in other caps but this is defo not the norm and would kind of defeat the object of a locking petrol flap!

Everyone could always do a test at FCS.
Just no crying when a key snaps in a lock! :wink:

we've done tests at FCS and pod etc and i dont think we've found any that havent worked? some may be a little stiff, but they still open

never failed as yet to open a mk1 petrol cap with my key, as said tested as fcs and pod several times and at variosu meets

the turbo has a petrol cap off a 1998 mk1 phase 3 1.2 5 door currently including the lock. was stiff for the first 2 or 3 times i opened it but it freed up and is fine now, never know the difference :lol:
