Renault are saying there are two types. What type do I need? I think he said split or open or something?

open i assume they are the 5mm roll pin used to have a 3mm inner pin too..

yes agree just had fun gettin the little blighters out of a driveshaft good size hammer and quality pin punches drift small one out first then larger one as small one acts as wedge for larger one have fun another stupid design by renault :roll:

Oh God. Am I going to have another nightmare getting the pin out? Is it going to lead to another panicked Wobba post when I realise I've not got the tools/****ed it up?

So, is it two pins? or just the one? Can they be withdrawn without damage?

Think it's like £1.50 at Renault for one.

I use a big split pin, does the same job, and can be removed much much more easily that a rollpin

I've not really had a look at how it's set up yet. Till I do I wont know what option I have really.

just get a decent punch the same size as the outer roll pin and both will come out together. its a pretty easy job really, just make sure you get the puch straight and give it some welly ;)

Never had a problem with mine, it's just a small hollow cylinder style pin

Punch it in with copper grease, and punch it out with a flat head screwdriver. Always comes out and goes in with ease.

Ahh cool.

Driveshafts are being collected tomorrow as a special made order from ECP, new front bearings too. taking it all apart on Friday and popping to local garage to gte bearings pressed out/in to stub axle.

Assuming there are no problems, should have it all done in a day easy.

no but people think they are can remove the side cover and really grease them well..i always do..

interesting so they are a non shielded bearing thats a bit old fashioned :shock:

think they have a shield but i find there never greased well..

thats why in general they never last as long as the originals..

i always re-grease mine and find they last better..

Went to Renault yesterday. The parts mnager said no-one had asked for these in about 6 years. He handed me two hollow 5mm and said I can have em for nothing as they have been sat there for years. He wasn't sure about the inner bits, he did look for me.

I might have to resort to a split pin instead perhaps?

i have never had a problem getting them down here mate they have them on the shelf can grab u one on monday if u wont?

Shit weather here at mo, was hoping to have had the shafts and bearings done this weekend :(

if you pick the seal out and pack with grease its hard to get the seal back on right, so more chance of water/dirt getting in.

i just leave as is. i use bearings everyday at work and never had any bother. :roll:

i just find once the seals go the speed of bearing wear and collapse is increased. :(

as for the roll pins, once cracked on me so i drilled the fecker out, but a 5mm drift/punch and big hammer usually works fine. :)

Got the pin out easily :)

It was a single hollow pin. Hammered a new one in, its nice and snug.
