I thought it would be interesting to get a list of all the Mk2 RS owners who moved on from MK1 ownership... and basically followed my lead after giving me endless amounts of grief

I know 2 live doesn't have one, but now secretly wants one... 1st step is admitting it to yourself Jon! ;)

so pretty mixed bag of emotions on the subject... lol

tbh if my 172 was standard I'd not like it half as much I dont think, the suspension mods were more fun than ITB's in a way, but modded I dont think about even owning another car :)

would have loved to have been in the situation I am now and kept the Williams though, only imagine what it would be like now!

tbh if i was going to get a newer rs......id skip the 1*2s and go straight for the r26.

a 1*2 would be like taking a step backwards imo. iv driven enough, i still dont like the driving position, or the uncomfiness of the seats.

I toyed with the idea of buying a 182 before i got my williams, went and looked at a few etc. I would probably consider one again in the future but they are just too generic in my opinion.

I've just recently taken ownership of a 182, surprised a few of you i know :)

In all honesty im loving it. Really nice having a refined drive for a change, and it doesn't make me want to thrash it everywhere. Although you have to thrash it above 5k to get any decent pick up from it.

Getting 38-40mpg doing 70 on the motorway is very nice... The Williams would only return 25-30 at best.

It's definately a better "daily driver". But for spirited drives, I think I still prefer the rawness of the Williams.

don't mind the phase 1's, take or leave the rest as said too generic looking and the driving position is frankly dreadful, and too me the interior feels really small :? basically theres a 1000 other modern cars i'd equally as happily have as the mk2/3 clio rs. the mk1 got under my skin when i was a kid, and i have a passion for them, so they can break down and rust away as much as they like and i'll still come back for more

Im the same, if i didnt have the willy, i wouldnt go for a 182, id go for a totally different car altogether...

J o n

I said the same when I had my Williams, had wanted one since I was young (a long long time ago!), but after it driving other cars felt dull... must have driven about 50+ E36 M3's and they were dull in comparison. Once you go Clio, you never go back!

I had always wanted a Willy remember them being launched and wanting one then. Now have one have a rather sad love affair with all Clio's. Family has only ever had Renaults so suppose have always had a soft spot for them weirdo

Keep talking about getting rid of the diesel megane and would prob replace it with a R26 or R27.

Also would get a V6 if had a garage.

was always a mini fan in me younger days. several bad and mad specs...

always loved the williams......since launch really. always had a penchant for small cars that can kill giants. test drove a valver many many moons ago, after owning several boring vag motors, and was hooked...........reminded me of the mini in terms of driving satisfaction. williams moves it on a step further.

would i buy a 172........no..........would i get a 182..........no.

neither deliver the feeling that the williams or mini does, the next closest thing iv found to it was the meg r26.......i think its just a bit too good of a car tho........ i got a tad confused with the box wen coming down thru the gears quickly, brakes are amazing, handling spot on, lsd a very welcome addition, but it just feels like your depending on all the electrickery to do its thing, very very easy to drive very quickly, i just wish the reno race driver had taken me out in it to show me what it could really do....lmao.....instead of heading off looking for the nearest sick bag.

R26 reminded me very much of the mk1s, and I was still driving the valver regularly at the time.

No other Clio appeals to me really, V6's are pretty cool I suppose but the next car I get will have to be something a bit special. I love the Exige S1, they are everything I like about sports cars, light, fast, raw, handle like a dream and look stunning. Got a lot of saving up to do though...lol

i know what your sayin..and i only had a few laps in the r26.....so was quite limited time. just felt like you couldnt chuck it about as much, without the car trying to take over if u know what i mean.

tommo.......i think youd tire of the impracticalness of the car long before u got bored of driving it lol. then youd be lookin for summat else. rs6 gets my vote for next car.......wen/if i can ever afford lol

I don't think they're as much fun, no way. Too much grip to be loads of fun imo.

I need to try it on track though really.

J o n
07-05-2009, 18:03
tbh I'd agree that you would have to be going pretty damn fast to get the same fun as everything in them is soo effortless! VERY quick cars!

Yeah gotta agree, it would def need to be a weekend car, the Williams is raw enough, an Exige S1 would take it to another level lol!

Don't know much about the R26's, are they the Megane with lsd, need to have drive of one of those tbh, EVO rave about them

R26R is sooo hardcore and friggin expensive to.

One in lookers chester, £21k and it has 2 bucket seats, roll cage and semis as standard. Iirc its about 100kg lighter than the R26. Lee off CS was saying it was VERY quick.

out of all the mk2s I drove funnily enought to me the one I have was the most like a willy, the 182 was a tad too harsh for me and I just cannot get myself to like the exhaust! The cup was great but both me and the lass (don't forget this will from time to time be driven by her) agreed that we fancied some toys for a change, ph1 still looks the dogs, gets better looking the older it gets but that dash ruins it for me - I seriously looked into getting one and doing a ph2 dash conversion in it - I wanted an exclusive for rarity and that green is porn.

This one I've got is harder to drive fast that the willy, more twitchy when proper gunning it but like i've said before I like it now, its fun its a handful at times - plus maybe I'm not quite so protective of it i'm happy to push on a bit harder than I did in the willy, maybe I feel safer or something or that I can replace it easily enough..

To be honest I think if I end up getting a williams again it'll be a modded track animal, can't see me trying to run one daily again, after defending it so much when it was my only car they really aren't the best for daily drivers anymore!

You bought a girls one, Cup is THE best Mk2 but its lower in the pecking order compared to the Williams!

Honestly Monkster this one drove as well as the cup did I test drove - I think a cup has a visual edge mine doesn't and I honestly thought that being in one I wouldn't hanker after leather and toys but I did

Icebergs such an awesome colour if I was going for a cup I'd have deffo searched out a silver one over a mondial.

Agree that willys aren't good as a daily runner, can't speak about a stnd one but mine has lowered and stiffened suspension, strut brace, lsd, it's very harsh on bumpy roads and can be very tiring at times, I used her as my daily runner for the first 2 years and sometimes I wished I had a 'normal car' lol, if I had to use her as a daily runner again I'd have to think of selling her for something more suited to road use. But I'm in the fortunate position where I can commute to work by train so only really use her at weekends which suits me fine, plus I can use the missus Megane for mundane things like shopping etc.
