Smoke is a slight oil leak at the back of the head and drips onto drive shaft then sprays exhaust, will be fixed now as the head is comming off next week for fresh gasket as we have 8wks to the next event. :D

It's obv not, but the back looks too low to be optimum.

Looks like really good fun.

Its just running as per cup racer spec. Angelsey is that smooth now its fine but probably raised a inch 1" front and back would be good.

Next event at Angelsey end of June is the plan for incar to be set up.

Seems strange doing a 'rally' on a track. To me this is a rally:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sexYCYR1DiM&feature=channel

Would your cup car be able to cope with the abuse? I mean suresly its too low and stiff to do this?

Jamie.

I'm really confused by your need to pick at every little thing. If you have a problem with the use of the word Rally in the title then get onto the events organiser.

Er Richard have you ever been to a Rally,?...they have things called "special stages".....where any surface can be used......and i am talking from experience.......ive done stage marshaling for the Lombard Rally through Sutton Park, in the westmids. so any place can be used wether with straw bails or cones......as long as safety is uppermost.

Jamie, all im saying is that it looks strange having a rally on a track. It looks more like a track day.

Rallys to me involve spectators, trees, roads and ditches.

Richard,
As a member of the organising team, that put the event on that Evogone entered.
I feel fairly well qualified to give you a few facts about Rallies.

Ideally every clubman would love to do events as you described,Tarmac and Forest.
As a competitor on the Tour of Mull (sometimes    )To get the car entered and trailered up there £1000,then the cost of a weeks accomodation ~~ you need this lenght of time to recce etc,Fuel and tyres, plus a major pre event strip and rebuild.
So the options open for the average competitor, the use of Race/Kasrt circuits entry fee £200,done and dusted in a day,The only risk to your car ~~ engine/gearbox reliabilty.

It is the only option open for the normal working bloke.
I hope this helps
Rodders.

Rod, i didnt know there were rallys like this. I assume that this sort of rally is cheaper because of the reduction in the wear and tear on the car?

Do you find that you get a different sort of entrant? Are the cars more tuned to this sort of track?

Looking at this video, Northy for example, would be able to enter his cup car and it would do fine on the smooth track?

Richard.

You have the nail on the head    ~~~~ It is all down to COST   ..
I used to rally an 5Turbo Gt cup racer. All I had to do was put a decent fire extinguisher system in it,another seat/belt get an MOT and wheeay     Off we go,We never actually finished out of the top 10 with the best result being second overall to a Siearra Cosworth. That car cost me £1750 to get it on the first rally I spent another £500
I commented on our event, that it will not be long, before someone comes along with an ex Touring car    and does exactly what I did with the 5.

Do not get me wrong,it has been mentioned earlier the Escorts etc etc are not cheap £45/£50 k !!!!!.
But you have to look at your own personal achievements ~~ Me ~~I could not DRIVE a greasy stick up a dogs a**e :P  :P ,but I enjoy having a go.
Steve (Evogone) on the other hand is developing his car to suit his needs,he will have to be very lucky to put the Clio in the top 5,he is also just out of the class awards   .So the time is now looming where he will need to spend ~~ ~~~ a more powerful engine   ,better suspension etc etc..
Look at Ians car ( see Picture thread)~~ that finished Mull and I then sold it ~~engine was a std Wiliams with a chip and induction kit,std JC5 box,std brakes etc etc.
Ian got it found he needed more power ,oh dear got that, but suffered traction,5 speed cr box and LSD    sorted that, but then it needed bigger brakes to stop it,and then better suspension etc etc.

Cheapest option to go Rallying at club level, buy an ex racer ~~ and do events on circuits or those at Millbrook or MIRA,where smooth tamac is the order of the day

Rally in my eyes includes dirt. My cup car doesnt do DIRT!

Hill climbs for me, but im very worried about bumping it due to the slicks being skitish when cold. Plus hill climbs there is no one else to crash into me like circuit racing

Im only interested in Tarmac rallying the forrest stuff doesnt interest me, if i was to do anything else it would be ciruit racing like the LMA salon championship. Cup racers are fine for the tarmac events apart from Wheeton (very rough) and maybe epynt (lots of jumps!)

If i wanted to go forest rallying then i wouldnt buy a clio.

On all event (apart from events on MOD land) you get lots of specators you get lots of things to hit (not always trees) Pendragon stages has lots of trees.!!

Also you use some of the feeder tracks on the stages at Angelsey so through gates with very solid gate posts.!!

Trust me very differet to a trackday..have a go and you will find out.

Next step for the car is bit more bhp 200 with good torque. Just enjoying the car as is at the moment and half the fun is being competitive with cars that cost 4-8 times as much.!

When you start not to enjoy it then its time to sell up and get a GT3 or M3CSL and just do trackdays. :D
