So nothing restrictive about the standard airbox, so why change it?

Assesing options and opinions on the v6 airbox, people are seeing gains over the std airboxes on the 172's.

Can you contribute ?

is this because it has a larger filter area...

is this because it has a larger filter area...

Could well be as the cup racers seemed use them or similar, dont know if it would give gains on the williams but seem to on the 172.

The airbox is THE SAME as the 172 airbox. It just has two smaller inlet pipes, rather than one larger one. IT IS THE SAME.

How can it provide gains?

What crack pipe have you been smoking?

May be "similar" to the Ph1 172 but its totally different to the majority of the 172/182s.

No thats the mk2 172. The mk1 has a different airbox.

A bunch of 18 year olds with new cars and no mechanical knowledge are stating that they gained 3 bhp from changing the airbox on their car. Come on, this is barry boy chav stuff, since when has anyone on cliosport said anything useful.

The renault 21, mk1 172, espace and v6 airboxes are all nearly identical, they just have different feeds based on their location in the car. If you think that swapping between these aitboxes does indeed give gains, then why not just drill a larger cold air feed onto the standard williams box and claim 3bhp gain? That would be exactly the same thing.

Im sure that renault made sure that the airbox in both the mk1 172 and 182s and mk2 172s could flow enough air for the engine to breath (and then some).

If it can already flow enough air, why would it benefit from a v6 airbox?

This is like the old arguments about different filters giving bhp gains. THEY DONT. Not on a clio.

Maybe on a 450 bhp supra. Maybe on a 550 bhp skyline. But not on a 150 bhp tin can.

Yes sure steven. You fit that v6 airbox. 3 bhp gains. Add a K and N sticker to the side of the car and get another 2 bhp ontop of that.

I've never actually seen the V6 airbox... or the Ph1 172 one for that matter, I ran mine with an open filter and hard pipe. Chav tastic :)

Filter now you could suck a cat through it quite easily lol

I think this is one of those phases cliosport seems to go through.

Weve had:

15 inch wheels
Turinis
Silvervisions
ITG panel filters
Cup splitters

Now we have the v6 airbox. Everyone ill fit one and if you dont you wont be in with the cool kids.

The justificaton will be the same dodgy graph showing a 3 bhp gain on some 2 bit rolling road.

well I cant comment on the airbox as I dont know what they look like in the flesh, but you're list is almost there...

You forgot:

Yozzasport/Ktec stealth exhaust
Bonnet bra
Maxogen
Accoustic valve removal
Cam's poorly timed by Reno/BenR and 40bhp down

Other than that I'm guessing your not a fan of using a V6 airbox then? lol

Why did the cup racer always use the V6 airbox over the later 172/182 design ones ? must have been better or they would have continued to use it.

Seems if i was to have a choice of airbox on a modified car then the V6 is the one to go for.

The only mod I'd do to the standard air box is cold air feed from the fog light or scuttle induction kit from HP

i think i can answer that using this pic....

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww224/ClioCup1/DSC00062.jpg

the lack of bends/junctions leading to the throttle housing i think is the reason they used the ph1/v6 airbox
