Dont know if this has been mentioned on here yet but they seem to have stoped making Eagle F1s in both clio dimensions 195 and 185.

Im gutted about this because i think these tyres totaly rule!

What will everyone turn to now?

Yea I know, asked black circles and camskill yesterday :( I asked about R888's instead :)

What are R888 like for road use though, are they ok in the wet? What is the wear rate like, I might get a set of these once the F1's have worn out...

Seems to me that 15" performance tyres may well be being phased out then if this is the case. Would anyone like to comment on that!?

Unless goodyear introduce another newer model. Couldnt see them doing that though. I mean, what cars come with 15" wheels in this day and age..

There are still other tyres out there, I just liked my butch looking F1's :(

My eagle f1s have been on there since i bought the car and are therefore part of the experience for me. I dont like change.

Plus, no tread pattern looks anywhere near as good!

I never liked the F1's after I only got about 4k out of them (if that) lol

PE2's are very very good, TR1's aren't bad either. R888's are non comparable though, different type of tyre, but GDI's demo car (KT53) runs the GG's and they last damn well. They are also better in the wet than a road tyre, just so long as there is no standing water, in which case it gets very scary lol

Sorry, what are GG's jesus, is that the compound? They sound like a good tyre. How much would I be looking at for a set?

MAXIBOY

Yeh R888s look sweet but ive heard they are pretty deadly in the wet. Deffo what you want on a hot track day though.

As for the steins! They look fookin awesome but how much are they and where do u get them? never heard of them.

Was considering proxes for my next set but they dont really excite me.

T1R's are not bad tyres to be honest... In the wet they are nearly as good as the F1's. They tend to last slightly better than the F1's (guessing a slightly harder compound). Not to bad in the dry either... again not quite as good as the F1's in the dry either, but not far behind.

I use them as wets on the cup racer.

does the tread pattern of a tyre really matter significantly?

I've alway based my tyre choice on how good the tyre is and its cost. Never really considered the thread pattern :s

Tommo
22-04-2009, 12:29
To be honest they don't need to be good in the wet as I drive like a pussy in the wet anyway! lol! I may try some R888's next then if I can get them for a good price. It's a shame F1's have been phased out, I have used these tryes for the last few years and they are superb tyres, and were a bargain too

what about the pirelli's? I've always used the goodyear eagle f1's and swear by them especially in the wet, road holding is brilliant. Havent tried pirelli although have been told they don't last too long. I've thought about 888's but are they really worth it on the road?

I'm still toying with getting the R888's. But without taking them on a track, there will only be maybe 2-3 times in the whole year when i'll be gunning it enough on the roads to actually appreciate them to their full extent! But oh my, don't they just look sexual?!

http://topgearstockport.com/Shop/images/r888.jpg

Failing that, i think for me, Its going to have to be a set of toyo TR1's for the added grip in the wet. which is usually like 90% of the time up here in the Pennines.

But hey, they still look pretty cool eh?

If you shop around they can be had at a seriously bargain price  got my last pair in 195/50/15 for £56 delivered, was a lucky & cheeky ebay auction :D but expect to pay around £30-50 per tyre

I would strongly recommend the yoko A021R its is almost as good as a 888 but will last longer and are alot more puncture resistant. plus very good in the wet. Try George Polly MS for a Price http://www.polleymotorsport.co.uk/polley/index.asp
Not listed but sure they could get them in 15's
Cheers Max
