I'm after getting a spare clutch cable and wondering if I need to buy a genuine reno one or if its ok to get a pattern part, prices and places listed below…

Genuine Reno - £25
Halfords - £16
Partco - £13 (however they didn’t seem to know the exact one and mentioned that they thought all the clutch cables are the same for that clio, is this true?)

Cheers
Danny

do a search. pattern clutch cables are weaker and will snap sooner.

The clutch cables for all Mk1 Clios are the same, and go for the Renault one, much better made.

buy genuine only, pattern ones are a waste of time and money

My mate got a non Renault one and is having a nightmare - he has a valver.

Clutch is right at the bottom - too low as it doesnt disengage and re-ingage proper. Just go Renault.

Your mate needs to be careful when changing gear then as if he doesn't sort this issue out soon he will "bend" the selector forks, and it will result in a very expensive gearbox rebuild (speaking from experience).

I agree summeh. As you know I had major problems for ages going through clutch cables (gen too). Syncro is nackered in 3rd although couldnt put it just down to bad cables, its done 110k after all.

Last one lasted ages. Months. I was going thru cables at 1 every 3 months for around 18 months, they kept snapping, but I didnt route the last one any different to my knowledge., and to this day dont know why it lasted any longer!!

Although I think there was a mention on this site a while back theyd (ren) had changed the design blah blah, to combat this, cause after all the way its routed is ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

My last one didnt look any different to one from 2 years ago tho!!

I got my last one from a scrap yard and it cost £5 along with loads of other stuff, so probably about 50p. Its was genuine renault. Its been working now for nearly 2 years. I just took the one that looked newest.

Pattern parts arnt always rubbish. I find pattern part accelerator cables better fitment on my car than genuine renault ones.

any advice on changing the cable?

Just make sure you route it properly. Take you time and test it before you finalise the placement.
