Why would Renault fit a Dunlop tyre to your Williams when the factory is full of Michelins?

just had an e-mail from Michelin

Dear Mr Hopkins,

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

We have allocated your message the reference number indicated above. If you need
to contact us again regarding your message, we would be grateful if you could
include the reference number.

I have the quoted vehicle as being originally fitted with a different Michelin
tread pattern, same tyre size:

185/55 R 15 82V 'Pilot SX GT'

This 'sports' driving category tread pattern is now superseded by the following
pattern, presently in good stock:

185/55 R 15 82V 'New Pilot Exalto (PE2)'

'New Pilot Exalto (PE2)': Sports
An asymmetric tread pattern design, for medium power 'sports' vehicles, having
superb steering response, optimum grip on wet surfaces and record high mileage
in its category.
Supersedes the previous ranges 'Pilot Exalto' & 'Pilot SX GT', along
with 'Pilot Sport' in some sizes.

The quoted pattern related to driving category 'touring' & is neither produced,
nor stocked, with no directly superseding pattern, in this tyre size:

'Pilot HX MXV3A': Touring
Regular style tread pattern design giving high mileage and superb handling in
the wet.
A longer life & low noise tyre.

Once again thank you for your interest in Michelin.

Yours sincerely
Michelin Tyre Public Limited Company
