View Full Version : help!!! my car sits at 2000 rpm

It only does it if ive been driving fast for more than say, half hour, which tbh is most of the time :wink:
sometimes it dont do it at all but then i stop at some lights and it will go straight back up
Northy suggested to disconnect battery for a while, tried and tested, still have the problem
and someone else suggested fiddling with the speed idle valve, (calm down northy) which i havent tried yet
I no this is a common problem (had it on my valver too) so somebody must have the answer .........pleaaassssseeee

Idle control valve could need cleaned/replaced, wiring plug to the idle control valve could be loose. I also had a small rubber washer on the throttle cable slip down to where it curls round the butterfly...this had the effect of 'lifting' the cable and make the car stick at high revs...never heard of this happening to anyone else tho...

cheers will have a look again tnite, yeah this happened to my 1st car too, very annoying so it def needs to be sorted.
people keep looking at me thinking 'stupid woman driver has got her foot on the gas pedal'
drives me insane :evil:

I think what u need to do is wash the car in the rain with a white top on.
Thats sure to make the engine race from 2000rpm upwards...lol

Check that you are not accidently resting you shoes on the high throttle pedal position. Can be quite awkward, especially with high heel stilletos and very tight skirts.
Send northy some pics of your normal driving position with those kinds of attire, and he will sort you out.

sorry to go off topic here but id say your idle control valve needs a good clean or replacing by sounds, i did have same problem, just removed it and cleaned it out with carb cleaner, not had any problems since! :P

yeah cause i am the 2nd son all imperfections were removed with the 2 bit like williams as well lol

Had a idea for u though....try another ecu in the car and see if it removed the high idling problem (one from a williams 2)

there were no pics cos i had the camera!!
If cleaning the idle control valve doesnt work, try the simple task of checking the butterfly on the accellerator cable - because my Willy used to do this - after a bit of a drive, pull up to some lights and the revs just didnt drop and held at over 2k - also looked a complete dickhead - the exhaust wasn't exactly quiet lol. The butterfly was catching on something and holding the throttle open :x
