Fitting braided fuel lines

Just in the process of fitting braided fuel lines and I need some advice. Can i simply clamp around the braid and rubber when connecting them to the fuel line and fuel rail or am i better of exposing the rubber and just clamping around that?

clamp round both..i finished all my ends with a section of heatshrink tubing as used on electrical joints to keep the braid tidy and clamped on that..
