I remember when I spoke to you a long time ago, you used to swear by the original Renault clutch. Is this still the case?

Mine needs replacing again and I can still remember how much abuse my old standard Willy3 clutch put up with before finally giving up the ghost at 80k miles.

My last 2 clutches have last 6k miles (Unipart) and 4k miles (Sachs uprated jobbie).

And they havent really had any more abuse than my old standard clutch used to.

Mark. I have always recconed the O/E (Valeo) clutch to be excelent for a fast road car with some occasional track use. Do'nt get me wrong there is a time and place for a competition clutch (and it sounds good) but I have found the vast majority of people would rather have a bit of feel and not such a heavy pedal, so to this end I would steer customers to a Williams O/E clutch unless the car is purley for the track. I always use a NEW Williams clutch even on the 16v I say NEW because Renault also sell a Recon cluch for the Williams, (personally I steer clear from this one) . I have also used Valeo clutches not from Renault and been assured they were for Williams but the centre plates and covers were 16v.
For clutches Renault work and do just what they say on the tin. If I had fitted the two clutches you have I would have been looking at two warranty jobs maybe.

Cheers Nick. I was always massively impressed with my old standard one. It put up with over 40 track days and around 40k miles of heavy road use, before wearing. Both of the clutches i have used recently have actually had failed springs, but the friction lining has taken no wear.

Do you know if this is the right part number (7701467492) or is it for the 16v?

Cheers
Mark

Nick commented that the Williams clutch that came off my 140,000 mile Williams (when the engine was in Hillpower for a rebuild) was pretty unworn.

Clucth kit is 7701467493 and £10.24 list price minus VAT. Trade should be paying about £65+ vat.
I'm using the stock one and its much better than the old one I had which had its plates around the spring on the clutch fail.
Recon clucth is £65 I think +vat. I think its about £45 trade from memory.
I'd always stick with stock not recon its to much effort to have to change it again

I wish I did the first time, but I thought I'd give the Sachs a try.

Stick to what I know in future i think.

It seemed useable, but how much was it? If its vastly more expensive than the standard Renault clutch, I will probably stick with that as I know how good they are.
