A while ago i had running problems with my car. The rev counter was going all over the shop and the car miss fireing and juddering. Sometimes it starts and sometimes it dont. Had it running today and it kept cutting out. Got it to idle in the end and gave it some revs up to about 3-4k where it starts to judder again . When i dropped the revs to 1500rpm the immobilser light started flashing continuosly but then stops when i rev it up again. The light does not always come on though. Only today. Im thinking its the ecu but my mates dont work on my car so i cant test it.

Any ideas folks? Cheers.

Also, my car is not really drivable at all.

Anybody got any more ideas? Will an older ecu work? Its been off the road a week now and getting a taxi is no fun

Phase 1 ECU might work, as they defo don't have an immobiliser built in.

Is that what was stopping it working? Phase 2 has a immobilser unit in the ecu?

There is an auto electrician looking at it now. He has it plugged into his computer to see whats wrong :D The trouble is that its not ****ing up now he's plugged it in  So we still dont know whats wrong. My car has been off the road for over a week now

Bought an ecu off ebay yesterday for £10.50 from a 94 phase 1. Thanks for the offer on your ecu Mat Brown but i thought it was a bit pricey cuz i dont even know if it is the ecu causing the problem, cheers anyhow. I hope this hasnt got the immobiliser built in like my mates did. :?

take all your earth off and emery cloth/sand them down clean... then put them back on...

Cheers. Im not sure what the problem is really. The past few nights its been fine and only ****s up on the way home from work :? It ****ed up again today on my way home from work, quite bad today like its getting worse again. Just been to the shop though and its fine :? :? :? . The auto electrician came to have another look last thursday. He plugged it in to his computer but it was working ok again  All he got back was that it said it was over fueling a little  Thats probably due to the de-cat though. I seriously dont know whats wrong with it and nobody else seems to know either  My dad wants to burn it

If it's overfueling, this is controlled by the Lambda sensor.

Yeah i know but its not the lamba sensor. That wouldnt make it not start at all sometimes and have no spark :?

I've yet to have the 'enjoyment' of fault-finding a computer controlled engine. But if the auto-electrician can't find a problem with the ECU, I'd suggest thet maybe you're looking in the wrong place.
Test all the injectors as per the Haynes Manual. See if they're firing. If they work, check each spark plug to see if they're sparking properly. Even check the idle conrol valve. Then hopefully you'll know where to start.
In the past I've used a Gunsens ColourTune to help with troubleshooting. That way I've been able to tell which cylinder is missing, and whether it was mis-sparking or underfueling.

ok doke : . An intermitant fault like that is more than likely a earth fault.
you need to overhall all your earths.. cleaning them.. renewing braids, checking braids.

the ecu will not tell the ignition coil to spark if the voltage fluctuates.. ic ant remember the exact workings but i know for a fact that if the earthing isnt quite correct the signal the ecu gets is not the signal it needs to tell the coil to issue a spark.
..
so get to you local scrap yard,.. get a load of earthing braids from new cars.. sand down all your earthing points.. check braiding etc and then have a bash from there..
try rigging up a starter pack via your battery.. do this when you cant get a spark..
ive had this exact fault.
