you get the idea
As long as the letters are standard UK size I also believe they are now legal.

how can uk standard size letters(which must be spaced correctly) fit onto a 3/4 size plate???? :? :?
my mate went to get some plates made at a few places the other day 3/4 are illigal and its illigal to sell them even for show plates.

AIUI you can sell/buy any plates you want for show use, it's using them on the road that is illegal!
If you want a smaller plate that's still legal, ask for an 11mm border round the letters - this is the smallest border that you can legally have, but still looks small compared to normal :)

Im loving that! I am going to get some made for my valver, can you get me the dimensions on that mate (or is it actually 3/4 of the legal size)? I can see its as tall as the recess but was wondering about width?

See what white16vavler said.
Basically the distance from letter edges to the plate is much smaller all round and hence a 3/4 plate.
You can get smaller letters and overall plate like Jay's but illegal. Just depends on I suppose if you think you are going to get pulled.
isnt there a permissible distance the letters have to be apart as well?

Each character must be 79mm high and 50mm wide (except the number 1 or the letter I). The width of each character stroke must be 14mm. There must be a space of 11mm between characters within the same group, and character groups must be 33mm apart. For the purposes of measurement, each character (again, excepting the number 1 or the letter I), regardless of its shape, is treated as a rectangular block of dimensions 79mm x 50mm
you cant have the letter I can you???

Yeah, its only usually on private plates on the old number plate system, but the new style has it

Does it??
Either way, as above, minimum legal space between each letter and minimum 11mm border = smaller plate :) especially if you have a shorter, private plate or a plate with lots of 1s in it!
