fuel Filter and pump :s

I have taken the fuel filter and pump out of my L reg and J reg valvers, they are totally different even the holes it sits in and the size... Can anybody tell me if the L reg is uprated? or give me some information? The L reg seems bigger with 3 fuel feeds rather than just the one?
